High automation

Extmsion processing is highly automated. Some extmders may process over 9 t/h, and in one Ralston Purina plant (Davenport, Iowa) 30 extmders were operating in a single location. With computer assistance, one person can operate many different extmders, and several different foods can be produced simultaneously. These maybe different formulations or different colors and shapes to be packaged singly or combined into one variety pack. The differences in variety may be attributable only to added colors or different shapes. [Pg.149]

The Bucher-Guyer horizontal rotary press is a highly automated batch process machine that requires no press aid. The press consists of a horizontal hydrauhc ram inside a rotating cylinder containing many flexible rods covered with a knitted synthetic fabric. The rods have serrated surfaces to allow juice which passes through the fabric to flow to the discharge ends. Hydrauhc pressure is apphed for a preset time, the ram is retracted, and the cylinder is rotated to break up the press cake. This cycle is repeated several times before the press cake is removed from the cylinder and the press is cleaned (16). Juice yield for this horizontal rotary press is 84% with secondary water addition it is increased to 92% (15). [Pg.572]

A subsidiary of lEC and Toshiba Corp. called ONSI Corp. was formed for the commercial development, production, and marketing of packaged PAEC power plants of up to 1-MW capacities. ONSI is commercially manufacturing 200-kW PAEC systems for use in a PC25 power plant. The power plants are manufactured in a highly automated faciHty, using robotic techniques to assemble the repeating electrode, bipolar separator, etc, units into the fuel cell stack. [Pg.582]

Malthouses being built in the United States are being designed for large batch sizes (150—200 t malt) and are highly automated to reduce labor and utihty costs. However, unless the beer market begins to grow or new uses for malt are found, it is likely that few new malthouses will be built. [Pg.483]

Phenol quahty tests and analyses can be divided into two categories wet lab and Hquid and gas chromatography. In the wet lab, phenol is tested for pH, sohdification point, solubiUty in water, bromine index, color, and distillation ranges. Phenol concentration, impurities, and CHP contents are analy2ed using highly automated Hquid and gas chromatography. [Pg.290]

Compared to ingot-based and sUicon sheet technologies, thin-film modules tequke less semiconductor material and can be mote highly automated both attributes lead to lower cost. However, the performance of thin-film modules has yet to equal that of ingot-based and sUicon sheet technologies. [Pg.104]

In the CPI, the most extensively studied human-machine interface is in the central control room in automated plants where plant information is displayed on visual display units (VDUs) and appropriate control actions are made by the operating team. In the case of a highly automated plant, the primary role of the human is to respond to unexpected contingencies such as plant states that have not been anticipated by the designers of the automatic... [Pg.56]

As discussed earlier, the successful diagnosis of faults in automated control systems is highly dependent on the mental model the worker has built up of the current state of the plant processes. Such a model takes time to construct. An individual who has to act quickly may not be able to make the necessary diagnoses without time to build up and consult his or her mental model. Even in a highly automated plant, provision needs to be made to display major process deviations quickly. [Pg.63]

In a highly automated plant, a violent exothermic reaction occurred because of an unanticipated interaction between a chemical process and... [Pg.63]

Offshore oil platforms are highly automated, requiring little direct operator input to maintain production. In the event of a serious abnormality such as a fire or a gas escape, the control room worker is required to make decisions as to whether to depressurize one or more systems and which systems to blowdown. Other workers have the facility to depressurize some systems at a local control room. [Pg.336]

J. Huwyler, S. Rufer, E. Kusters and J. Drewe, Rapid and highly automated determination of moipliine and moipliine glucuronides in plasma by on-line solid-phase extraction and column liquid cliromatography , 7. Chromatogr. B 674 51-63 (1995). [Pg.296]

Only very recently the production of melt-blown polypropylene fleeces with considerably thinner fiber diameter became possible [100], thus making it possible — a low-cost hydrophilization provided — to achieve attractive properties with regard to small pore size and excellent tensile performance for use in highly automated assembly processes. [Pg.287]

Thermoplastic RPs (RTPs), even with their relatively lower properties when compared to thermoset RPs (RTSs), consume about 55wt% of all RP products. Practically all of the RTPs are injection molded with very fast cycles using short glass fiber producing highly automated and high performance products. [Pg.152]

Ranges from relatively simple to highly automated with multiple stations for, say, front and back decoration. [Pg.540]

In the last 20-30 years material handling in mill rooms as well as the mixing process is highly automated. Also, downstream equipment runs in an automatic control mode. [Pg.978]
