Horizontal rotary press

The Bucher-Guyer horizontal rotary press is a highly automated batch process machine that requires no press aid. The press consists of a horizontal hydrauhc ram inside a rotating cylinder containing many flexible rods covered with a knitted synthetic fabric. The rods have serrated surfaces to allow juice which passes through the fabric to flow to the discharge ends. Hydrauhc pressure is apphed for a preset time, the ram is retracted, and the cylinder is rotated to break up the press cake. This cycle is repeated several times before the press cake is removed from the cylinder and the press is cleaned (16). Juice yield for this horizontal rotary press is 84% with secondary water addition it is increased to 92% (15). [Pg.572]

Applications. Boron fibers are used as unidirectional reinforcement for epoxy composites in the form of preimpregnated tape. The material is used extensively, mostly in fixed and rotary wing military aircrafts for horizontal and vertical stabilizers, mdders, longerons, wing doublers, and rotors. They are also used in sporting goods. Another application is as reinforcement for metal matrix composites, in the form of an array of fibers pressed between metal foils, the metal being aluminum in most applications. [Pg.469]

FQtration with Filter Aids. A wide range of pressure and vacuum cake filters can be used with both precoat and body aid fihration. Most of these operate in the batch mode and include the filter press, the vertical and horizontal leaf filters with sluice or centrihigal disduuge and the vertical tubular fih . The rotary drum vacuum fitter works in a semi-batch shion in that the precoat is removed progressively as the fitration proceeds. [Pg.170]

Horizontal belt filters working on the vacnnm principle were originally developed for process applications where intensive washing is required, but are now also employed for a wide variety of filtering reqnirements. They have become such a versatile processing tool that they have taken a considerable share of the market from the former workhorse of the vacuum filter business, the rotary drum filter, and also quite a share from traditional filter press applications. [Pg.132]
