Phthalocyanines - High Performance Pigments and Their Appiications 

In recent years, several excellent treatises on copper phthalocyanine pigments have been written, focusing on the synthesis, properties, and traditional applications of this remarkable family of truly high performance pigments [1]. In no way is the objective in this chapter to replicate such stand alone works rather it is to expand the readers horizon to include several of the more high performance, and nontraditional application areas which continue to extend the creative possibilities for this class of product.

Exploration activities are potentially damaging to the environment. The cutting down of trees in preparation for an onshore seismic survey may result in severe soil erosion in years to come. Offshore, fragile ecological systems such as reefs can be permanently damaged by spills of crude or mud chemicals. Congress then directed DOE to request the National Reach Council to review the health, safety, and environmental issues at the installations that were involved in the manufacture of nuclear weapons. The Commission s report addressed many generic issues that dealt with the culture associated with nuclear weapon production. Redirecting the culture to ensure that health, safety, and environmental considerations are integral to making operational decisions was one of the major recommendations. 

Make health, safety, and environmental considerations a priority in our planning for all existing and new products and processes. 

Proper lubricant selection depends on the system needs and cost considerations. The final choice depends on the equipment design, operating conditions, and method of application, as well as health, safety, and environmental considerations. Whenever possible, these recommendations should be followed. In addition, most reputable oil suppliers keep in close contact with major equipment builders and are available to consult with users on lubricant selection. In addition, many PC software programs have recently become available that guide the user in making intelligent selections for specific equipment.
