Personal health record A PHR is also called a personally controlled health record (PCHR), or a personal electronic health record (PEHR), among others. This is a record of health owned and maintained by an individual—the emphasis on ownership and maintenance is important. As part of TSCA, EPA can require the testing of any chemical if there is the possibiUty of an unreasonable risk to health or environment or if there is significant human or environmental exposure. If the substance poses an unreasonable risk, EPA can prohibit the manufacture, processing, or distribution of the substance limit the amount of the substance that can be manufactured, processed, or distributed prohibit a particular use for the substance limit the concentration of the substance during manufacture, processing, or distribution regulate disposal methods for the substance and require manufacturers to maintain records of process and to conduct tests to assure compliance with EPA rules. 

Health and Safety. Halosilane vapors react with moist air to produce the respective hydrohalogen acid mist. Federal standards have not set exposure to halosilanes, but it is generally beheved that there is no serious risk if vapor concentrations are maintained below a level that produces an irritating concentration of acid mist. The ideal recommended cyanuric acid concentration is 30—50 ppm (Table 2). Although this range can be readily maintained when using hypochlorite sanitizers, it cannot be maintained when using chloroisocyanurates since they increase the cyanuric acid concentration. The NSPI recommends a maximum of 150 ppm cyanuric acid. Many health departments limit cyanuric acid to 100 ppm. No significant increase in stabilization occurs beyond 50—100 ppm, and since high levels of cyanuric acid slow down the rate of disinfection, the pool water should be partially drained and replaced with fresh water to reduce the cyanuric acid to below recommended maximum levels. The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) was enacted in 1976 to identify and control toxic chemical ha2ards to human health and the environment. One of the main provisions of TSCA was to estabUsh and maintain an inventory of all chemicals in commerce in the United States for the purpose of regulating any of the chemicals that might pose an unreasonable risk to human health or the environment. An initial inventory of chemicals was estabhshed by requiring companies to report to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) all substances that were imported, manufactured, processed, distributed, or disposed of in the United States. Over 50,000 chemical substances were reported. PoUowing this initial inventory, introduction of all new chemical substances requires a Premanufacturing Notification (PMN) process. To be included in the PMN are the identity of the new chemical, the estimated first year and maximum production volume, manufacture and process information, a description of proposed use, potential release to the environment, possible human exposure to the new substance, and any health or environmental test data available at the time of submission. In the 10 years that TSCA has been in effect, the USEPA has received over 10,000 PMNs and up to 10% of the submissions each year are for dyes (382)...

Erincipal element of sustainability. Because it is difficult to imagine owhuman health can be maintained in a degraded, unhealthy natural world, the issue of ecosystem health should be a more fundamental concern. Sustainabihty requires that the health of all diverse species as well as their interrelated ecological functions be maintained. As only one species in a complex web of ecological interactions, humans cannot separate their success from that of the total system. 

At the time of preparation of this article the consumption of meat in the UK for 1995 and 1996 was estimated to be about 3.6Mtyr V thus there is a considerable demand to produce it economically with minimal adverse impact on the environment by maintaining good animal health and welfare.
