Harbour waters

Ahern et al. [386] has observed that organophosphorous compounds are coprecipitated with cobalt and pyrrolidine dithiocarbonate, and suggest that this might be a suitable means of preconcentrating the phosphorus fraction of harbour water prior to analysis by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry.

Different real water samples were analyzed by the proposed methods river water, sea water, sewage water and harbour water. All samples were collected at different points of the coast of the Comunidad Valenciana (Spain). Samples were filtered through 0.45 pm nylon membranes (Teknokroma) after their arrival at the laboratory in order to remove any particulate matter. Each sample was analyzed in triplicate and all assays were carried out at ambient temperature.

Sewage duties, industrial slurries and ash handling De-watering of dirty water when building roads, dams, harbours, tunnels, etc. 

Corrosion problems that arise are frequently discussed under the headings (a) sea-water, and (b) fresh waters, but there is, in fact, no sharp dividing line, since some harbour, estuarine and brackish well waters are mixtures of sea-water and fresh water and are often variable in composition. In the past, corrosion problems were serious, particularly in sea-water service, but resistant alloys have been developed and although trouble still occasionally arises this is more frequently due to poor design or operation rather than to lack of materials suitable for the application.

Miscellaneous There are many interesting applications that arise from time to time that are outside the main stream of industry described above. Examples include desalination plant reactor cooling water circuits automobile body corrosion in situ) marine (vessels, piling, harbour installations) aircraft (in situ) packaging and cavitation monitoring.

Abstract. Newly established residential area in Vastra Hamnen (West Harbour) in the city of Malmo uses Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) as part of the district heating and cooling system. ATES system has 5 warm and 5 cold wells that are 70-80 m deep. Cold from the nearby sea (Oresund) and water cold from heat pump is stored from winter to summer. The purpose of the system is to deliver free cooling to district cooling system at a temperature level below +6-8 °C. Operational experiences and economic aspects are discussed.
