Tumbling and centrifuging are batch processes, but all the others can be included in a continuous line process and, for suitable articles, the process can be fully automated. If the shape of the articles is unsuitable, some kind of hand spraying is usually selected. 

Flow-coating and hand spray-gun application is sometimes employed where a relatively small number of large articles has to be phosphated.

The compositions may be cast, laid up by hand, sprayed, or molded. The final products are used as corrugated or flat panels, helmets, electric appliances, furniture, containers, automotive housings, boats, house sidings, modular bathrooms, and chemical storage tanks. 

To achieve the main process requirements (ability to be applied by different methods by hand, spray, electropaint), and to provide the necessary decorative, physical, and mechanical properties, organic solvents are used in concentrations up to of about 50% to modify the viscosity and other rheological characteristics of the some polymer compositions. During the application and formation of the coating, the solvents evaporate into the atmosphere as pollutants. This serious disadvantage of formulations based on the use of solvents as "intermediate" carriers has provided the incentive to develop polymer compositions and application technologies which yield the required rheological characteristics either without solvents, or at least with low concentrations of them. 

Application of microelements spray increased the main constituents, such as cumin aldehyde, p-cymene, a-terpineol, thymol and acoradiene. On the other hand, spraying the cumin plant with microelements decreased other constituents, especially /Tpinene. No marked differences between the relative percentages of the minor constituents of cumin herb oil, due to application of trace element treatments, were observed. Four types of fabric substrates were cyanoethylated the control, acid hydrolyzed, 50 and 100 Mrad. Fabric specimens 19 X 89 mm were sprayed with a fine mist of 2% NaOH solution using a hand spray bottle until a 100% pickup by weight was achieved. The specimens were then left to air dry until just damp. Six samples were then placed on a rack inside the sealed reaction vessel, which had inlet and outlet connections to permit the acrylonitrile vapor to flow through and around the reactive fabric. This vessel was connected to two bubble bottles containing water and acrylonitrile with which to saturate nitrogen gas as it entered the reaction vessel. The water was necessary to swell the cellulose so the acrylonitrile could penetrate. It was determined that varying nitrogen flow rates and reaction time had little effect on the percent add-on. 

The principal difference between the BS 4172 and the CSMA method lies in the lime of release of ihe test insects and (heir consequent exposure to the spray. The small size of the Pcei-Grady chamber also contributes to a lack of the full expression of formulation effects. It was originally designed (Peet and Grady, 1928) for the evaluation of coarse hand sprays produced by venturi action. 

The presence of pesticides at the top of the food chain has been reported in some studies and may be of critical concern. Pesticide residues have been deteeted in samples including cows and human milk, and birds. Kituyi found contamination of the cows milk by chlorfenviphos residues in levels ranging between 0.52 and 3.90 mg/kg in dry season and 1.58 to 10.69 mg/kg during wet season. The same study showed that milk collected from plunge-dipped cows had higher eoncentrations of the pesticide residues than milk obtained from hand-sprayed cows. 

At the time of preparation of the present manuscript, comparative investigations of hand spraying, dipping and automatic spraying are in progress. The first results have been presented at a symposium [102c], and are available on request from DESAGA. 

To get complete coverage of the surface, the gun is moved about and directed to various areas by the sprayman in case the operation is a hand spray one. When arranged as an automatic application, the gun or guns may be mounted on a mechanical manipulation device to produce the desired motion over the surface. The part is often carried on a conveyor to be moved past the spray gun position to further create the desired relative movement of the surface with respect to the spray.
