From plotting of 1/r versus 1/C, the reaction rate constant, k and adsorption constant, K can be obtained. Fig. 3 indicates that photocatalytic decomposition of 4-NP is in good agreement with L-H model. In the present work, the values of k and K in the presence of H2O2 were found to be higher than those in the absence of H2O2, as shown in Table 1. [Pg.255]

Version 3.0 of UNSAT-H was developed under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) from the UNSAT model beginning in 1979. The early work was documented by publication of version 1.0 of UNSAT-H,79 and the most recent version (3.0) was described by Fayer.80 The UNSAT-H model has been tested for the arid parts of Washington State, a few other arid sites, and at least one location with a wet climate.80... [Pg.1077]

Payer80 states that the UNSAT-H model was developed to assess the water dynamics of arid sites and, in particular, estimate recharge fluxes for scenarios pertinent to waste disposal facilities. It addresses soil-water infiltration, redistribution, evaporation, plant transpiration, deep drainage, and soil heat flow as one-dimensional processes. The UNSAT-H model simulates water flow using the Richards equation, water vapor diffusion using Fick s law, and sensible heat flow using the Fourier equation. [Pg.1077]

The UNSAT-H model estimates evaporation from the soil in two ways. In the isothermal mode, the user must supply PET data for each day or daily climate data from which the model calculates PET by the Penman method. In the thermal mode, the model estimates evaporation from the difference in vapor density in the atmosphere and in the surface soil layer. [Pg.1077]

The UNSAT-H model user must specify an averaging scheme for the internodal hydraulic and vapor conductivity terms used in soil water calculations. The user must also specify the model node spacing within the soil mass, which may require adjustment by iterative solutions to arrive at a satisfactory numerical analysis. In order to find the correct averaging scheme and node spacing, several... [Pg.1077]

Using Raman scattering, Steigmeier of RCA Zurich has found in one of our samples a weak structure at 1875 cm-1. This finding, which implies a lack of inversion symmetry, is consistent with our Si—H model. [Pg.120]

Expected changes are less dramatic in the HIRHAM H model, which projects a reduction of 3.8% for the mean annual precipitation and an increase of 4.2°C for the mean annual temperature. While the two RCMs predict quite different reductions of the mean annual precipitation, with HIRAM H showing only a slight reduction, both models agree in a dramatic increment of the annual temperature for the time-slice 2071-2100, with RCAO E projecting the largest increase with respect to the control period. [Pg.59]

A SET process has been postulated between Rh(III) oxidative adducts and an NAD(P)H model compound (cf. Section 18.2.4) [91]. Oxidative adducts formed by Sn2, SNAr, or inner-sphere SET pathways may produce radicals by homolytic M-C bond cleavage [130, 155, 176, 199]. [Pg.536]

Figure 16.2 depicts the processes considered, including back reactions, but not current doubling. Even if the photocatalytic process is located at the semiconductor-liquid interface [29], it was demonstrated that the dark adsorption constant of the donor does not match the adsorption constant obtained from the fitting of the photocatalytic degradation data against the L-H model [30], The L-H... [Pg.357]

Many models have been developed that deal with the sorption properties of wood in the presence of moisture these have been discussed in a number of works (e.g. Skaar, 1972 Siau, 1984). They can be approximately divided into sorption models, such as the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) model, or solution models (such as the Hailwood-Horrobin, H-H, model). The sigmoidal shapes of sorption or desorption isotherms can be deconvoluted into two components. These are often taken to represent a monomolecular water layer (associated with the primary sorption sites, OH groups), and a multilayer component where the cell wall bound water molecules are less intimately associated with the fixed cell wall OH groups. [Pg.30]

Popper and Bariska (1972) studied the moisture sorption properties of wood chemically modified with acetic (or phthalic) anhydride and analysed the results using Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) theory and the H-H model. Acetylation was found to reduce the number of sorption sites, whereas little effect was noted with phthaloylation. By dividing the sorption isotherm into a monolayer component and a multilayer component using the H-H model, it was shown that there was a large reduction in the... [Pg.70]

A recent study of wood modified with a variety of anhydride reagents has questioned the validity of the use of the H-H model when interpreting the moisture sorption isotherms of modified wood (Papadopoulos and Hill, 2003). This has shown that although modification with anhydride reagents leads to a reduction in both monolayer and... [Pg.71]

In spite of the proper qualitative features of the Lindemann-Hinshelwood model, it does not correctly predict the much broader experimental fall-off behavior this is shown in Fig. 18, in which log(fe/fc ,) is plotted as a function of log(M = P/RT/Mj = Pc/RT). As evident from this figure, the actual rate at the center of fall-off (i.e., at PJ is depressed relative to the L-H model consequently, the transition of rate from low- to high-pressure limit occurs more gradually. [Pg.164]

Recently, Troe developed an empirical model to resolve the discrepancy between the L-H model and the actual fall-off, in which a fall-off broadening factor F X) was introduced (Gardiner and Troe, 1984) ... [Pg.165]
