Gums, with ulcers

Gum preparation Combine 1 part by weight of acacia gum with 3 parts by volume of distilled water. Place in well-stoppered bottle, shake occasionally, let dissolve, keep refrigerated. (It becomes a slimy goo.) Dosage 1 to 2 tablespoons (15 to 30 ml) as often as needed for sore inflammations in the gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus. Especially useful during acute throat infections, ulceration of the mouth, painful gastrointestinal tract from dysenteric disease. The mucilage will coat and soothe and provide antimicrobial action. 

The gums are for the most part excessively fungous, with an intolerable degree of stench, putrefaction, and pain sometimes deeply ulcerated, with a gangrenous aspect. 

Spleen and Stomach associate with flesh. When heat exists in these organs, swollen gums, painful mouth ulcers and foul breath may appear. 

Nicotine is most often used in replacement therapy for tobacco addiction, but also has some potential uses to treat other conditions. It has been helpful in stopping bleeding in ulcerative colitis. Nicotine gum is being tested in conjunction with Tourette syndrome where it has been seen to lessen the severity and frequency of tics. Nicotine can exacerbate symptoms of peptic ulcer or gastritis, particularly with gum or lozenges, as nicotine may enter the stomach directly. 

Side effects specific to nicotine delivery systems are mainly caused by local irritation at the site of administration. For example, nausea, indigestion, sore gums, and mouth ulceration may occur when using the gum. The patches may cause skin irritation, which is characterized by erythema, pruritus, edema, and rarely, vesicles. The nasal spray may cause irritation of the nasal mucosa, sneezing, coughing, and lacrimation, although tolerance to these effects develops rapidly with continued use. Side effects from the inhaler include mild mouth and throat irritation and coughing (181). 

Both German chamomile and Roman chamomile extracts are used in pharmaceutical preparations, with the former more frequently used they are used in antiseptic ointments, creams, and gels to treat cracked nipples, sore gums, inflammations, irritation of the skin and mucosa, respiratory tract inflammation, and for wound healing. The volatile oils are used in carminative, anti-spasmodic, and tonic preparations, among others.
