People see the sacrifices, and the lack of role models causes students to look and say, That person spends 80 hours in the laboratory, writes three grant proposals a week, and so on. There are multiple solutions here to the problem, but there are not enough women in the middle and upper tiers to demonstrate the solutions. We need to show our younger colleagues that there is more than one way to skin that cat.
