Gloves styles

Protective clothing as recommended by the material supplier must be worn when handling molten curatives. The gloves must be impervious to the liquid curative. There is often a conflict at this point, as heat-resistant gloves are also needed for handling of the mold. Curative entrapped in cotton-style gloves can be absorbed into the skin. [Pg.85]

A third interesting aspect of this story is that Du Pont s aramide fiber was not specifically the result of market-driven research. When this fiber was patented in 1971 there was no commercial application in view. However, within ten years, three varieties of Kevlar fiber were commercialized by Du Pont for dozens of reinforced plastic applications in radial passenger tires, belts, in protective clothing, such as gloves or ballistic and flak vests, in ropes and cables in racing kayaks and canoes, and in commercial aircraft. Thus the Kevlar fiber by no means resulted from the functional, bottom-up, approach which is sometimes considered as a major characteristic of materials science. The aramide fiber resulted from the traditional style of industrial research which was successful in the plastic era and confirms the leadership of chemistry in materials technologies. [Pg.265]

Choose the proper size. Gloves that are too tight can cause fatigue and numbness. Ones that are too loose can fall off or get caught in equipment. Determine the proper size by using a cloth measuring tape to measure around the circumference of the employee s hand. Measure around the widest point of the palm. If it s 8 inches then you need a size 8 glove. (Remember actual sizes vary by manufacturer and even by different styles from the same manufacturer.)... [Pg.682]

Components The component parts, as seen in Figure 6.30, that may be found in a glove are one pair of tranks, one pair of thumbs, four whole fourchettes, four half fourchettes, two gussets, and six quirks. Depending on the style of the glove there may also be roller pieces, straps, rollers, eyelets, studs, sockets, and domes. Finally, linings will themselves consist of tranks, thumbs, and fourchettes. [Pg.173]

A seamless coated knit glove offers comfort — allowing hands to breathe — and conforms to the hand for a better fit, hence the saying it fits like a glove. Seamless coated gloves also provide workers with enhanced grip and durability. Some thinner 13-and 15-gauge styles can also provide workers with enhanced sense of touch and the ability to handle smaller objects such as nuts, bolts or electronic components. [Pg.24]

Where chemical hazards exist, employers should read the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for each chemical and determine if employees will have incidental or extended contact with the hazardous materials. Disposable gloves are often selected for incidental contact whereas unsupported and supported chemical- or liquid-resistant styles are used for extended contact or where immersion is required. Unsupported gloves provide enhanced dexterity and tactile sensitivity. Supported styles are constructed of base fabrics for added physical strength. [Pg.26]

Together the design, materials, and lining allow the glove to conform to the natural shape of the hand resulting in a more favorable fit. Durability is still a very important component of welding gloves, but the focus has expanded to include comfort, fit and style into the mix. [Pg.40]

Traditional cotton — a unicellular, natural fiber that makes a soft and breathable textile — remains a mainstay of the glove industry. Cotton may be used in a canvas or jersey form, depending on the glove construction style (woven, knit or seamless knit). It may also be combined with polyester and other synthetics, making it very versatile. [Pg.43]
