Germination damage

SASPs comprise about 10-20% of the protein in the dormant spore, exist in two forms alfi and y) d are degraded during germination. They are essential for expression of spore resistance to ultraviolet radiation and also appear to be involved in resistance to some biocides, e.g. hydrogen peroxide. Spores (a /3 ) deficient in a//3-type SASPs are much more peroxide-sensitive than are wild-type (normal) spores. It has been proposed that in wild-type spores DNA is saturated with a/j3-type SASPs and is thus protected from free radical damage. 

Male infertility may result from cancer surgery, radiotherapy, hormonal imbalances, or damage of germinal stem cells. Testicular damage from radiotherapy depends on the treatment field, total dose, and fractionation schedule. Depending on the radiation, sperm counts may return to pretreatment levels in 10 to 24 months after therapy or maybe permanent in 80% of men after total-body irradiation for transplant. 

Seed germination reduced 50% (Kulshrestha etal. 1982) Effectively controls weeds in wet sandy soils some damage to crop possible in dry clay soils (Amor et al. 1987)... 

Cress (Lepidium sativum) and radish (Raphanus sativus) are small seeds, quick to germinate and sensitive to phytotoxic (plant damaging) substances like the organic acids temporarily present in immature composts. 

Vermiculite seems to be the best medium for coca germination, fine grade if possible. Styrofoam cups are OK, but I prefer small plastic pots, 2"diameter, with holes in the bottom. Seeds should be planted no deeper than one inch. Pots should be raised so as not to saturate the medium. Coca, whether as a seedling or a mature plant, never likes to have wet feet. I think it is better to start them in small pots rather than flats, so there is less damage to the root system when they are transplanted. Forget the hot pad - 1 think it is completely unnecessary. Seedlings usually come up in 2 to 4 weeks if they are viable. 

Damage induced in whole animals can be detected in in vivo chromosome assays in either somatic or germinal cells by examination of metaphases or the formation of micronuclei. The micronucleus test can also detect whole chromosome loss or aneuploidy in the absence of clastogenic activity and is considered comparable in sensitivity to chromosome analysis (Tsuchimoto and Matter, 1979).

Seed tapes from Ecoflex have to provide sufficient strength in the sowing or drilling process, without damaging the seed or germination. Fertilizer tapes have to release the fertilizer slowly to the roots of the plants. In both cases, Ecoflex tapes can provide good strength and slow release performance.
