Seed tapes

Seed tapes Seeds are embedded in a biodegradable paper tape that is laid in a drill (see facing page). Thinning is unnecessary. [Pg.254]

Seed tapes from Ecoflex have to provide sufficient strength in the sowing or drilling process, without damaging the seed or germination. Fertilizer tapes have to release the fertilizer slowly to the roots of the plants. In both cases, Ecoflex tapes can provide good strength and slow release performance. [Pg.130]

Microstructures of the two GPS-ed silicon nitride materials (a) SN-F (not seeded, cold pressed), (b) SN-C (seeded, tape cast). Plasma etching highlights the epitaxial growth of P-sialon on P-Si3N4 cores (indicated by the arrows). [Pg.539]

Poly(ethylene oxide) films have been used to produce seed tapes, which consist of seeds sandwiched between two narrow strips of film scaled at the edges. When the seed tape is planted, water from the soil dissolves the water-soluble film within a day or two, releasing the seed for germination. Because the seeds are properly spaced along the tape, the process virtually eliminates the need for thinning of crops. [Pg.492]

Different horticultural items made of biodegradable polymers, such as plant pots, seed/fertilizer tape and binding materials, foams and nets for erosion control, offer reduction of system complexity by reducing the number of work steps. [Pg.129]

Grow the fibroblasts in Ham F-10 medium with 10% fetal calf serum (FCS). Harvest the cells, seed at a density of 30,000 cells and grow to near confluency on cover slips in 6-well plates in Ham F-10 medium with 10% FCS. Remove the medium and wash the cells three times with 2 ml Hanks balanced salt solution. Fix the cells with 3 ml fixative. Seal the plate with tape and store in the refrigerator at 4 C until staining. [Pg.370]

After the poppies bloom, petals drop off and farmers are able to collect the opium from the unripe seed pod in the center of the flower. Illicitly harvesting opium is labor-intensive work that must be done by hand. The pod is slit with specially designed knives. Called taping,... [Pg.389]

ECN [40] developed silicon-enriched SiAlON tape-cast ceramic substrates using a plasma-sprayed Si seeding layer. Closed layers of 1 cm2 have been achieved with grain sizes of 10-100 pm when using a melt of In with 1%A1 at 960° C. [Pg.150]

Patterson s Emulsion of Pumpkin-Seeds. Thi.s is a good preparation for expelling tape-worms. Take 2 ounces pumpkin seeds, peel and pound to a paste with 1 ounce sugar then odd by degrees 8 fluid ounces water. Tho whole to bo taken in 2 or 3 draughts, at short iutervals, fasting. Dr. H. S. Patterson has prescribed this repeatedly with success ... [Pg.315]
