Function-Specific Design

The Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) should be updated with details of test speeifiea-tions and test reports. It should be possible to track a user requirement through Functional Specification, Design, System Build, Development Testing, and User Qualification.

The conclusions we may draw from this example are quite clear. We cannot hope to expand all the orbitals of an atomic system accurately in a small number of Laguerre functions with a single, fixed exponent. Instead, we must take a more pragmatic approach and introduce functions specifically designed to reproduce as closely as possible the different orbitals of each atom. In this way, we may hope to reproduce the electron distribution of each atom with a small number of terms. Indeed, our example suggests that it may be possible to obtain a crude but qualitatively correct description with no more than one basis function for each occupied AO - if we use basis functions with variable exponents. 

Operational Characteristics. Oxygen generation from chlorate candles is exothermic and management of the heat released is a function of design of the total unit iato which the candle is iacorporated. Because of the low heat content of the evolved gas, the gas exit temperature usually is less than ca 93°C. Synthetic. The main types of elastomeric polymers commercially available in latex form from emulsion polymerization are butadiene—styrene, butadiene—acrylonitrile, and chloroprene (neoprene). There are also a number of specialty latices that contain polymers that are basically variations of the above polymers, eg, those to which a third monomer has been added to provide a polymer that performs a specific function. The most important of these are products that contain either a basic, eg, vinylpyridine, or an acidic monomer, eg, methacrylic acid. These latices are specifically designed for tire cord solutioning, papercoating, and carpet back-sizing.

If you look in the medical literature, you will often see the term placebo defined as a non-specific treatment. What does it mean to say that a treatment is not specific It could mean that the treatment is effective for many different disorders, rather than for only one particular condition. In this sense, placebos are indeed non-specific. Besides depression, placebos have been shown to affect anxiety, pain, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, Parkinson s disease, angina, autoimmune diseases, Alzheimer s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, gastric function, sexual dysfunction and skin conditions. We know this from the thousands of studies in which placebos have been used as control conditions, against which the effects of medication have been evaluated, and from studies that were specifically designed to assess the placebo effect. 

Zeolites are formed by crystallization at temperatures between 80 and 200 °C from aqueous alkaline solutions of silica and alumina gels in a process referred to as hydrothermal synthesis.15,19 A considerable amount is known about the mechanism of the crystallization process, however, no rational procedure, similar to organic synthetic procedures, to make a specifically designed zeolite topology is available.
