Fuel cells projects

Extensive discussions with Hubert Gasteiger of the GM Fuel Cell Project (and now with ACTA) and with Jan Rossmeisl of Lyngby, Denmark, ate gratefully acknowledged. It would be fair to add that these discussions did not resolve key disagreements however, they were certainly conducted in and with good spirit. 

No specific MFC program, but 50 ongoing hydrogen and fuel cell projects, many in collaboration with EU frameworks. 

Participation in a 13 different EU-sponsored fuel cell projects. 

Danish research communities are well represented in European research and demonstration projects in the area of fuel cells. In the period 1999-2002, 43 projects were supported by the EU s Fifth Framework program on Energy Environment and Sustainable Development (EESP). Overall, Danish partners have participated in EU-sponsored 13 fuel cell projects (For more information see the Nordic programmes). 

Under the Hellenic HFC network a number of research institutions and universities work on hydrogen and fuel cell projects. 

The hydrogen and fuel cells projects are funded by a mix of public and private sources and through tax incentives. The estimated annual budget is over 30 million, which includes about 8-10 million in public funding.

Moreover, hydrogen storage onboard vehicles and ships remains in pressurised tanks. An alternative solution seems to be needed, which may be the liquid hydrogen tank developed by Air Liquide for the Renault fuel cell. General Motors and its German subsidiary, Opel, launched a new global PEM-fuel-cell project for automobiles in Europe. An experimental fuel cell version of Opel s new Zafira minivan was unveiled at the Paris Auto Show.

Jinli Qiao is a professor, PhD supervisor, and scientific core-competency leader at Donghua University, China. She earned her PhD in electrochemistry from Yamaguchi University, Japan, in 2004 before joining the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan, as a research scientist. From 2004 to 2008, Dr. Qiao carried out seven fuel cell projects including two NEDO projects in Japan on the development of novel proton-conducting membranes, new binders for membrane electrode assembly (MEA)...

Additionally, in the near future, SECO will execute its first fuel cell project, the Texas LPG Fuel Processor Development and Fuel Cell Demonstration Program. The SECO led program, which was funded imder a competitive U.S. Department of Energy grant process, is a partnership of private and public entities including the Alternative Fuels Research and Education Division of the Railroad Commission of Texas Plug Power, Inc. UOP/HyRadix, Des Plaines, Illinois Southwest Research Institute the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the Texas Department of Transportation. ...

Matty PEM fuel cell research projects are being performed by IPHE members. IPHE fuel cell projects include the development of advanced membranes, the application of gradient porous composite MEAs for different types of fuel cells, and the development of novel polymer electrolyte membranes for MEAs capable of operating in the temperature range of <-20°C to 120°C at zero humidification.
