Specifications The American Society for Testing and Materials has developed specifications Annual Book of ASTM Standards, Con-shohocken, Pa., updated annually) that are widely used to classify fuels. Table 27-5 shows fuels covered by ASTM D 396, Standard Specification for Fuel Oils. D 396 omits kerosenes (low-sulfur, cleanburning No. 1 fuels for lamps and freestanding flueless domestic heaters), which are covered separately by ASTM D 3699. 

When the system is eonsidered elean, empty the oil reservoir, and elean out all debris by washing with a detergent solution followed by a freshwater rinse. Dry the interior by blowing with dry air, and vaeuum any freestanding water. Replaee the filter elements. Remove jumpers and replaee orifiees. Return eontrols to their normal settings. Refill the oil reservoir with the same oil used in the flush if lab tests indieate it is satisfaetory otherwise, refill with new oil.

Files had to be transferred from a control computer to a training simulator. At first, there was no direct connection the files were first transferred to a freestanding workstation and then from there to the simulator. To simplify the transfer, a direct cable connection was made between the control computer and the simulator. 

Communicating the importance of PSM. This includes internal as well as external communications and may be part of broader corporate communications strategy or a freestanding effort. 

This is a term applied to the early freestanding shell boilers of two- and three-pass construction. Originally, they were dry back and later wet back. These boilers superseded the brickset boilers. The earliest economic boilers were also brickset. The gases from the front smokebox returning across the lower external part of the shell were contained within the brick setting to form a third pass. 

The compressor plant should be located in a place with good ground conditions. In some cases, the compressor foundation may have to be isolated from that of the main building so that vibration is not transmitted from compressor to the building structure, and from heavy plant to the compressor. Where the vibrations are slight, resilient pads may be used to advantage. Receiver-mounted units should always be either freestanding or mounted on resilient pads. If in doubt, the suppliers should be consulted.

Figure 16.8 shows an active perimeter gas extraction system. Active systems can be used at virtually any site where there is the capability to drill and excavate through the materials in the action area to the required depth. Limiting factors of active systems include the presence of freestanding leachate (i.e., saturation) or impenetrable materials. Active perimeter gas control systems are not sensitive to freezing or saturation of the surface or cover soils. 

Printable elements, especially those prepared by top-down methods, are often prepared such that they are attached to the mother substrate by tethers and anchoring structures that keep the otherwise freestanding elements in place. To separate elements from the mother substrate in the retrieval step, stamps must successfully break these tethers, which are typically composed of the same inorganic material as the elements. This process often requires careful design of the elements and tethers such that the elements separate by well-controlled and reliable fracture. Simple fracture theory63 points to several important factors that lead to easy fracture, notably the presence of cracks in the inorganic material and the geometry of those cracks.

SAXS is sensitive to variations in the electronic density in a material, and so provides information about the shape and size of clusters in micro PS. In contrast to the quantum wire structure proposed in early publications [Cal, Lei], the crystallites in micro PS are found to be almost spherical. There has been some evidence that the dimensions in the growth direction are somewhat smaller than those parallel to the surface [Fr2], The latter result, however, is still controversial because investigations by spectroscopic techniques indicate an opposite elongation [Mi4], A combination of grazing incidence diffraction (GID) and SAXS measurements on various freestanding micro PS films showed crystallite diameters from about 1.5 to 4 nm, depending on formation conditions.
