Forum Agenda

The recommendations of the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development and the subsequent establishment of the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety with the priorities for action in the six programme areas of Chapter 19, Agenda 21, all lend further weight to the need for EHC assessments of the risks of chemicals. 

The listing of subcommittee titles in Table 1 indicates the present scope of Committee interest and activity. The simple fact that a subcommittee has been created to deal with a subject area is a statement of its importance and implies thatthere are priorities in that area on the agenda of the Committee. As these interests change, the alterations are reflected in the USP periodical, Pharmacopeial Forum, discussed below. As outlined in the Rules and Procedures and noted above, any actions of subcommittees, or considered revisions to or adoptions of standards, are published for public evaluation and comment and are subject to mechanisms for appeal or request for postponement.

The fourth session of the Forum (Forum IV) was held from 1 to 7 November 2003 in Bangkok, and hosted by the Royal Government of Thailand. The Process Safety Forum (PSF) has been set up to provide a platform whereby initiatives, best practice, lessons from Incidents and process safety strategy can be distilled and shared across sectors to Influence our stakeholders (including the Regulator) and to drive the process safety management performance agenda. The Forum may, from time to time, make recommendations to industry via the trade associations on directions of travel that would likely benefit all sectors. 

The Forum, at this stage, focused much of its attention on sampling and analysis in industry inspections. There will be a need to broaden this agenda in the future and to continue to address other issues related to the effective and consistent implementation of the Convention in the chemical industry.
