Fornix

Ointment- Apply small quantity to lower fornix, up to 3 times daily. [Pg.2089]

Because dinoprostone produces cervical ripening along with stimulation of the uterus, it has been used as an alternative to oxytocin for the induction of labor. Preparations of dinoprostone can be placed in either the cervix or the posterior fornix. Prepidil is a formulation and delivery system of dinoprostone that delivers a dose of 0.5 mg into the cervix, while Cervidil consists of the drug embedded in a plastic matrix. The matrix is designed to deliver a dose of 0.3 mg per hour for 12 hours. [Pg.719]

In the fimbria/fornix or cingulate bundle, selectively reduced the concentration of serotonin in the rat hippocampus but had no effect on spatial memory in the Morris water maze or radial arm maze. However, the lesion... [Pg.540]

Same as for local corticotherapy, the goal of excision is to reduce the inflammatory reaction due to the products resulting from the alteration of the necrotic conjunctiva and involved in the detersion of the site. Thus, it limits the production of free oxygenated cytotoxic radicals. It also allows the removal of the caustic material that has stored up in these tissues. The excision must be operated as soon as the eyeball has been rinsed and potential foreign bodies ablated. It consists in the ablation of the necrotic tissues of the eyeball surface. The excision of the conjunctiva and of the subconjunctival tissue must be done up to the superior and inferior fornix when required. Only the necrotic and avascular tissues must be removed until the reach of the tissue... [Pg.103]

Ripening of the cervix was started with a pessary of gemeprost 1 mg. After 3 hours, when the cervix was 1 cm dilated, an intramuscular injection of sulprostone 500 mg was given. After 30 minutes she developed persistent abdominal pain, which became a continuous cramping and then a shooting pain a male fetus of 170 g was aborted. There was a 3 cm longitudinal cervical rupture located posteriorly that reached the posterior fornix. [Pg.134]

FIGURE 23.2 Lacrimal flow and drainage. (1) The lacrimal gland produces tears that are distributed by blinking. (2) At normal rates of flow, tears are cleared by nasolacrimal drainage. (3) Sudden increases produced by instillation or reflex tearing overspill the lower fornix. [Pg.476]

Limbic system detect a gene mutation. The method uses the coupling of two adjacent synthetic oligonucleotides aligned on the template of the target deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Area of the brain associated with small, involuntary functions, emotions and behaviour. Comprises the hypothalamus, parahippocampus, olfactory lobe, dentate gyrus, amygdala, anterior thalamus, fornix and stria terminalis. [Pg.474]

An erodible implant system based on PVA has also been investigated. The bioavailability of pilocarpine was shown to be increased sixteen-fold using this system. The system showed considerable promise for prolonged drug delivery since vision is minimally affected by the presence of an insert positioned on the sclera. When the device is placed in the lower fornix, the contact area for the released drug is the sclera and little material is in contact with the cornea. [Pg.313]
