Food service/processing

There is tremendous opportunity for marketing effective and desired skin-moisturizing products, but vision is needed. For example, markets wide open to moisturizers include food service/processing antimicrobial handwash formulations and consumer and medical topical antimicrobial products. The key is to stay close to targeted customers and listen, listen, listen. [Pg.348]

The three principal domestic uses for rice in 1988 were direct food (61%), processed food (18%), and beer (20%). The direct food use figure includes the conventional white milled rice plus specialty rice products (parboiled, precooked, aromatic, brown, and prepackaged mixes) shipped directly from the rice mills. The specialty products account for approximately one-fifth of the direct food use. Approximately two-thirds of the direct food use rice is ultimately distributed to consumers through retail outlets and one-third through food service outlets. [Pg.358]

Polysulfones also offer desirable properties for cookware appHcations, eg, microwave transparency and environmental resistance to most common detergents. Resistance to various sterilizing media (eg, steam, disinfectants, and gamma radiation) makes polysulfones the resin family of choice for many medical devices. Uses in the electrical and electronic industry include printed circuit boards, circuit breaker components, connectors, sockets, and business machine parts, to mention a few. The good clarity of PSF makes it attractive for food service and food processing uses. Examples of appHcations in this area include coffee decanters and automated dairy processing components. [Pg.469]

Commercial production of food products is conducted in large-scale processing plants. As already mentioned, tomatoes are processed in plants continuously from June to late fall (autumn), 24 h per day, 7 days per week. This is also true of potatoes, wheat, soybeans, corn, and other large-scale commodity crops. Some crops, such as grapes, that might have a relatively short harvest season, may be processed around the clock to generate intermediate products, such as juice or young wine that can be stored for extended periods of time, whereas final products, which can be made from the intermediate products, may be produced over time as consumer demand requires. Final products may also be stored in their final retail or food service containers until demand requires distribution. [Pg.221]

Clear extrusion sheet grades are designed for extrusion and thermoforming applications, and like other NatureWorks PLA polymers, use conventional processing techniques and equipment. Potential uses include dairy containers, food service ware, transparent food containers, blister packs, and cold drink cups. [Pg.21]

Vertex business is divided into six categories Technical Components, Dairy, Industrial Containers, Household Products, Food Trays and Securefresh. Processes include rigid blow-moulded containers for industrial, household, chemical and agricultural products extruded sheet and thermoformed containers for food manufacturers, kiwifruit and horticultural products disposable and point-of-sale packaging for the food service sector and injection-moulded components for human and animal health products. [Pg.135]

Frying is done in homes, restaurants (food services), and at large industrial operations. Pan frying or griddle frying is done mostly at homes or at the restaurants. In this process, a thin layer of oil is heated on a skillet or a griddle. The food is fried in a layer of oil and fried until completion. [Pg.1980]

Finally, the way of imparting flavour to the culinary product depends very much on the type of product (dry, chilled, frozen), processing parameters (heat load), shelf-life requirements (from a few weeks to 24 months), degree of convenience (home, food-service), etc. In all cases, the aim is to deliver a tasty food appreciated by the consumer at the point of purchasing and consumption. [Pg.556]

Once in the consumer s hands, food must provide the expected nutrients during its shelf life. Furthermore, food must be handled properly to prevent contamination. Unfortunately, the home and food service setting are the most common places for food mishandling. Thus the process that is taken for granted as both simple and imperative is anything but. [Pg.292]

These sources included, among others, the U. S. Pharmacopoeia and the Merck Index. Thus, the common data base would contain compounds known to be of interest to people in the health field, including drugs, antibiotics, hazardous materials, pesticides, nutrients, and food additives as well as inert compounds in such substances. Chemical Abstracts Service processed these sources against its registry system and added registrations as well as synonyms as they were found in these standard references. The data were delivered to FDA and NLM in a form suitable for processing in their machine systems. [Pg.251]
