Follow-up team

The initial situation is a collision correction process done through automated detection. The collision detection delivers to each collision data regarding the colliding parts and their spatial position absolute and relative to each other allowing an automated filtering of known collisions. An on-site human evaluation of unknown collisions is performed by a follow-up team. Relevant collisions will be reviewed in an expert group. This procedure has the following problems ... 

To tackle the costs of the follow-up a first optimization of the process is taken hiring an olf-shore team of engineers that after intensive training of the follow-up team should realize the collision analysis and send the evaluated data back to the manufacturer. 

This committee works with the follow-up team to ensure that hazardous conditions and safety issues identified are corrected or alternatives developed until full corrective action can be taken. 

Define how to use a follow-up team to correct safety-related issues. 

A fully functioning follow-up team is an important function that ensures that all safety-related work order requests are addressed and completed in a timely manner. This team should consist of a maintenance technician, several employees, and a supervisor, depending on the number of work orders that are under review. Refer to Chapter 8, Getting Your Employees Involved in the Safety Management System .

The team is designed to break down any barriers that may exist between production, maintenance, employees, and the leadership team. To close this potential gap, the team uses a peer-to-peer approach to ensure that the safety-related hazard and associated risk is assessed. The intent is to involve the employee, ensure that the work order is valid, and that the hazard and associated risk is vaUd and needs to be corrected. When the work order is completed, a member of the follow-up team discusses the issue/conditions with the employee who requested a hazardous issue be corrected. If the employee agrees with the correction, then the work order is signed off and closed. 

The follow-up team should have a preapproved budget as mentioned in Lesson Learned 4 that can be used for direct corrective actions without approval. This budget must be used responsibly and is subject to audit. 

The follow-up team can present the status of safety-related work orders at weekly/montldy meetings. The status is posted both electronically and hard copy for all employees to review.

At follow-up team meetings, SMARTS goals can be set and tasks assigned according to the action plans derived for increasing team effectiveness. Of course, an evaluation plan is needed to assess whether the intervention actually increases the success of the safety team. To the extent behaviors can be identified as barriers to team success, a practical action plan identifies dysfunctional behaviors to eliminate and fimctional behaviors to support. As such, an evaluation plan would assess whether tiie target behaviors change in the desired directions.
