Fluxing additions

Rux is much less of a problem at X-ray sources indeed sometimes it needs to be reduced to avoid detector saturation. The whole field of protein crystallography is heavily dependent on the use of synchrotron sources, an enormous area of application which has made a spectacular impact - and no doubt will continue to do so. The high flux additionally means that the application of real time studies is much further advanced for both the wide and small angle regimes. Additionally, X-rays are much more easily focussed, and can therefore be used at high spatial resolution to produce microfocus data. For biological systems this has already led to some interesting studies, e.g. on starch " and flax. ... [Pg.161]

Early chemical-resistant masonry usage of silica bricks employed them as refractories for steel furnace or coke oven applications. Typically these bricks had up to 3.5% flux additions (usually CaO), promoting bond formation at lower firing temperatures. [Pg.181]

The foremost requirement is the accurate determination of an observable bioreaction network structure that describes indene oxidation in Rhodococcus. Based on product accumulation profiles and induction studies, indene bioconversion networks have been proposed for several isolates [8]. To validate further these networks for our strains and employ them for flux analysis we developed an experimental system that can maintain cells at steady state while allowing accurate metabolite measurements for flux determination. The system comprised a chemostat with a regular feed of hquid medium and separate supply of the indene precursor through a gas phase hne. Indene uptake and metabolite production rates were easily measured in this system, leading to the calculation of the unknown bioconversion fluxes. Additional measurements for system closure and further validation were obtained by using radiolabeled tracers and measuring the products of their oxidation in Rhodococcus cultures [9,10]. [Pg.88]

Recently, Yamamoto s group reported that in-plant waste (sludge) was separated into liquid iron and solid rare-earth oxide phases at 1550 °C under argon atmosphere having partial O2 pressure of 10 ° -10 atm without any flux additions (Kubo et al., 2009). They also showed that almost all of the neodymium and dysprosium existed in the oxide phase and iron content in the oxide phase was less than 0.4 mass% (Katayama et al., 2010). [Pg.182]

In this category belongs the determination of heating and/or cooling curves and DTA, where the temperature difference between the two samples is monitored. The other sort of measurements are calorimetric where the temperature difference is not used for the measurement itself, but exclusively for the regulation of the measured compensating thermal fluxes additionally introduced to the samples, so as to maintain their temperature difference ideally at zero. [Pg.88]

More studies are currently under way to examine the effects of flux addition into the green mixtures and to mechanical properties with microhardness equipments. [Pg.339]

The composition of blast furnace coke with respect to its Ume, silica and alumina contents also needs to be taken into account when calculating the required sinter composition and corresponding flux additives to give the required blast furnace slag composition. [Pg.50]

The weak acid or scrubbing solution bleed represents a disposal issue and is usually sent to an effluent treatment facility where the acid is neutralised with lime to form gypsum and the dissolved metals are precipitated. The filter cake can be returned to the sinter plant feed where the CaO content will be useful as a flux addition. The filtrate solution containing chlorides can be discarded, provided... [Pg.62]

Flux additions are set to provide a slag with an Fe0 Si02 ratio of 2 1 and an FeO CaO ratio of 5 1. Higher levels of CaO will increase the activity of PbO and hence will aid subsequent reduction, but this will be offset by the increased volume of slag and greater lead loss at the same final lead in slag value. [Pg.120]

The slagging operation also favors moderate ash fusion temperature and relatively low-ash-content coals. High-ash fiision-temperature coals may require flux addition for optimal gasifier operation. [Pg.202]

Figure 2.16 shows the recovered flux after the series of individual backpulses depicted in Figure 2.15. Prior to any backpulsing, the permeate flux through the cake layer is less than 25% of the clean membrane flux. After three backpulses with a combined duration of tj, = 0.5 s, the flux is recovered to about 65% of the clean membrane flux. Additional backpulsing provides no further flux recovery, due to the adherence of a cell monolayer on the membrane surface. Thus, we... The numerical modeling methods for polymer blends have been reviewed in this chapter, with different categories such as volume-of-fluid, molecular dynamics and diffusion-controlled methods being introduced. Use of the Cahn-Hilliard method was emphasized for binary and ternary polymer systems with no obvious mechanical flux, while specific factors such as elastic energy and functionalized substrate were considered for purposes of comparison. The diffusion-controlled model described, using the Cahn-Hilliard equation as the constitutive equation, can be used to depict the gradient of the interface as well as the composition profile of partially miscible blends hence, it is feasible to implement this equation in a polymer blend system. It should be noted that although these examples do not consider mechanical flux, additional constitutive equations (e.g., Navier-Stokes) can easily be added to this diffusion-controlled model. [Pg.515]

In this respect, it should be noted that depending on the total ash content, there is usually an economic limit for flux addition. Beside its beneficial influences, the flux remains also an additional mineral ballast on the process. [Pg.78]

The compositions of the alloys produced with different flux additions were given in Table I. Alloys were produced approximately closed to the estimated composition except Cr. Cr203 in flie initial mixtures were not totally reduced to Cr metal, CrO formation was occurred during the SHS reaction and CrO and unreduced Cr203 joined into the slag (Fig. 1). [Pg.187]

In this study, Mo containing Fe-based alloys were produced by SHS process without using any external energy. In Fe-Ni-Cr-Mo system, metallic recoveries were increased with the flux addition except CaO addition. Highest metallic recoveries were obtained with 10 % AI2O3 addition. SHS alloys were produced as same composition as the estimated alloys. [Pg.189]

In addition to optical measurements and pressure analysis, the determination of the mass flux through the atomizer is used to characterize the phenomena inside the nozzle. The throughput is dependent on the effective pressure difference as can be seen in (16.2). The mass flux additionally depends on the value (discharge coefficient), characteristic for the applied nozzle, and the liquid density. In order to... [Pg.621]
