Floating ribs

Attack the floating ribs from either the front or rear, but, if possible, strike the blow to your opponent s right side. The liver is located here just below the ribs, and the blow causes terrific shock to this organ. Attack this area with the knife edge of your hand (fig. 2B), the outside edge of your fist, the knuckles folded at the second joints, the heel, the toe, or the knee. 

The eleventh and twelfth costal cartilages are free. These ribs are known as the floating ribs. 

As a form of direct fabric evidence, the physical shapes of textile fabric pseudomorphs have been studied to identify fiber type and yam and fabric construction. Pseudomorphs of paired filaments in mineralized fabric formations found on Shang-period bronze weapons were determined to be replaced silk (I, 2) S-and Z-twisted silk staple yarn pseudomorphs were identified as well as fabric constructions, including float yams and a ribbed weave. 

The most widely used applications reported in 1973 included rib structures in the fabrication of lightweight reinforced-plastic parts and as a core material in sandwich construction, bonded to metal, wood, or glass. Other applications are as reinforcements for aircraft-control surfaces, radome housings, fUler blocks under fuel cells, tank floats for indicating devices, and ribs, posts, and framing in houses and shelters. Due to its buoyancy characteristics cellulose acetate foam has been used in lifeboats, buoys, and other flotation devices (21). 

Twill weave A basic weave characterized by a diagonal rib or twill line. Each end floats over at least two consecutive picks, allowing a greater number of yarns per unit area than in a plain weave, while not losing a great deal of fabric stability. This pattern has better drapability than either plain or basket weaves. 

The eleventh and twelfth ribs have neither neck nor tubercles. As in the tenth rib, the heads have single facets corresponding to facets on the same-numbered vertebral bodies. The ventral ends float freely. The twelfth rib does not possess a costal groove.

The weft floats across multiple warp threads and is cut open afterwards. This results in cut pile that in the case of cord fabric builds ribs (Fig. 4.10), while in the case of velveteen it is evenly distributed.
