Fill time

Anodes are designed to last 4 years so that ballast times for (a) are 40% of the service time and for (b) 25%, which corresponds to 146 and 91 days per year, respectively. The shortest filling time should amount to 5 days per ballast journey. Protection current densities are given in Table 17-3. 

Liquid relaxation times are normally less than 30-100 s while tank filling times generally exceed 1000 s. The exponential term in Eq. (5-2.4.4) is therefore negligible by the time most tanks are 30-50% filled. Hence... 

The fill time is 2 seconds so the total volume flow rate, Q, is given by... 

Thus for any plastic where the Power Law constants are known, the clamping force can be calculated for a given radius, R, cavity depth, H, and fill time, /. 

The old, tedious, but quite reliable method is to measure the supply flow by the bag method. A tightly rolled plastic bag empty of air at the commencement of the test is pressed on the terminal with all the supply air passing into the bag. The filling time of the bag is measured and the flow rate calculated based on this information. The bag volume has to be determined in advance by a special measurement. Finally, the characteristic pressure difference method, menrumed above, can also be applied to supply terminals.

Hydrogen flows from the low pressure bank to the vehicle tank until a pressure of about 10 to 15 MPa is reached in the vehicle tank (or the pressure in the low pressure bank is reduced to 16 MPa). In fill mode, the low and medium pressure banks are filled to the same pressure of the high pressure bank, to reduce the filling time and to make the maximum use of the storage vessels.
