Feminine hygiene treatments

Functional derivatives of polyethylene, particularly poly(vinyl alcohol) and poly(acryLic acid) and derivatives, have received attention because of their water-solubility and disposal iato the aqueous environment. Poly(vinyl alcohol) is used ia a wide variety of appHcations, including textiles, paper, plastic films, etc, and poly(acryLic acid) is widely used ia detergents as a builder, a super-absorbent for diapers and feminine hygiene products, for water treatment, ia thickeners, as pigment dispersant, etc (see Vinyl polymers, vinyl alcohol polymers). 

Uses Initiator for superabsorbent polymers (diapers, incontinence pads, feminine hygiene pads), pulp/paper (filler retention aids, flocculants, coagulants, dry str. additives, drainage aids, paper coatings, binders), water treatment (flocculants, coagulants), textiles (warp sizes), adhesives, pharmaceuticals (binders, thickeners, controlled-release tablets), personal care (hair fixatives), aq. printing inks, detergents (cobuilders with zeolites)... 

Uses Germicide, fungicide detergents disinfectant deodorant laboratory reagent topical antiseptic antimicrobial, antistat, emulsifier, surfactant in cosmetics disinfectant for pharmaceuticals (germicidal cleansers, antiseptic shampoo and toothpaste, feminine hygiene prods.), veterinary and surgical instruments veterinary disinfectant for treatment of cuts, wounds, skin infections Manuf./Disthb. Feminine hygiene, facial cleansing, hemorrhoid treatment, etc. 

For certain applications of biopolymers (e.g., feminine hygiene care), disintegration in water is also an important factor. This mainly has to be understood as dispersion or dissolution for, e.g., flushable products. Test procedures have been proposed in EN 14987 - Plastics - Evaluation of disposability in wastewater treatment plants -Test scheme for final acceptance and specifications.

Balsam of Peru is used extensively in topical preparations for the treatment of wounds, skin graft healing, indolent ulcers, scabies, diaper rash, hemorrhoids, anal pmritus, bedsores, intertrigo, eczema, and others in hair tonic and antidandruff preparations, feminine hygiene sprays, and as a fixative or fragrance...
