Faraday system

The same principle can also be applied to the Faraday sealed-tube system described in Part 1, p. 76 f. This system is completely closed and the only external influence consists of the temperature gradient direct handling is not possible in this case. However, If the reactor tube material is resistant to corrosion by the reagents involved, the Faraday system produces an extremely pure reaction environment. [Pg.1791]

An ion beam causes secondary electrons to be ejected from a metal surface. These secondaries can be measured as an electric current directly through a Faraday cup or indirectly after amplification, as with an electron multiplier or a scintillation device. These ion collectors are located at a fixed point in a mass spectrometer, and all ions are focused on that point — hence the name, point ion collector. In all cases, the resultant flow of an electric current is used to drive some form of recorder or is passed to an information storage device (data system). [Pg.204]

These three terms represent contributions to the flux from migration, diffusion, and convection, respectively. The bulk fluid velocity is determined from the equations of motion. Equation 25, with the convection term neglected, is frequently referred to as the Nemst-Planck equation. In systems containing charged species, ions experience a force from the electric field. This effect is called migration. The charge number of the ion is Eis Faraday s constant, is the ionic mobiUty, and O is the electric potential. The ionic mobiUty and the diffusion coefficient are related ... [Pg.65]

A typical excitation system includes a voltage regulator, or exciter, protection circuits, and measurements transducers. If the terminal voltage decreases below rated value, the conU ol system increases the rotor cuiTent and thus the magnetic field as shown in Faraday s law, the generated voltage is thus forced up to the desired value. [Pg.299]

As the corrosion rate, inclusive of local-cell corrosion, of a metal is related to electrode potential, usually by means of the Tafel equation and, of course, Faraday s second law of electrolysis, a necessary precursor to corrosion rate calculation is the assessment of electrode potential distribution on each metal in a system. In the absence of significant concentration variations in the electrolyte, a condition certainly satisfied in most practical sea-water systems, the exact prediction of electrode potential distribution at a given time involves the solution of the Laplace equation for the electrostatic potential (P) in the electrolyte at the position given by the three spatial coordinates (x, y, z). [Pg.239]

By 19884 it became obvious that the NEMCA effect, this large apparent violation of Faraday s law, is a general phenomenon not limited to a few oxidation reactions on Ag. Of key importance in understanding NEMCA came the observation that NEMCA is accompanied by potential-controlled variation in the catalyst work function.6 Its importance was soon recognized by leading electrochemists, surface scientists and catalysis researchers. Today the NEMCA effect has been studied already for more than 60 catalytic systems and does not seem to be limited to any specific type of catalytic reaction, metal catalyst or solid electrolyte, particularly in view of... [Pg.2]

The magnetic susceptibilities (x) or magnetization (a = x H) for the systems described here were measured by the In-sltu Faraday method described by Mulay [1]. The Mossbauer Spectra were obtained with an Austin Associates spectrometer with a 57co/Rh matrix source (50 mCi) and Nuclear data electronics. In-sltu measurements were made, using a cell similar to that described by Delgass et al. [7]. [Pg.504]
