It is added to the feed of cattle and poultry to control the development of fly larvae that breed in manure. It also is used as a dust, dip, or spray to control mange, horn flies, and face flies of cattle.28,37... 

Several monoolefins were reported to function as short-range sex attractants for male face flies, Musca autumnal is (46). In order of decreasing activity, (Z)-14-nonacosene, (Z)-13-nonacosene, and (Z)-13-heptacosene were demonstrated to increase the incidence of male strikes at females. These cuticular constituents were present in both sexes, as were nonacosane and heptacosane, two alkanes reported to attenuate the activity of the monoolefins.

The azido derivative 683 (CGA 19255) had herbicidal and even better insecticidal activity. 683 prevented the development of the larvae of the house fly (Musca domestica) it was tested successfully as a poultry feed-through lar-vicide " . 684 (CGA 72622 cyromazine, Larvadex ), a metabolite of 683 23,824 proved to be better suitable as a larvicide " . It inhibited growth of a great variety of Diptera insect larvae (e.g. house fly, yellow fever mosquito, face fly, sheep blowfly, fall army worm). Additionally, 684 was used as anthelmintic . 684 is applied as a food additive for domestic or livestock animals or by spraying it on manure surface. Larvicidal properties of formamido " and formamidino derivatives of 684 have been tested. The bacterial degradation of 684 was investigated . ... 

Biting flies are a serious pest of hogs because both the face fly and house fly transmit hog cholera and these pests breed in tremendous numbers in hog lots. Insecticides are also used to eonlrol the hog louse and hog mites. Fogging with 1.00% pyrethrins synergized with 2.00% PBO is a standard fly treatment in hog operations, and the same formulation can be applied directly to the animals. Other fogging formulations containing 0-50% pyrethrins and 1.00% PBO in a dual-synergist system are also frequently used. 

Approximately 089 of sheep fanners use insecticides to control the major pest species - blow- flies, lice, keds and scabies. Face flies transmit eye worms...

Cyfluthrin is approved as ear tag for use on beef cattle to control horn flies, face flies. Gulf Coast ticks, and ear ticks. The ear tags containing cyfluthrin should be removed at the end of fly season and before slaughter. 

Cyhalothrin is marketed as ear tag and pour-on formulations to cmitrol horn flies and face flies. 

Cypermethrin is a potent synthetic pyrethroid which is available as an ear tag in combination with chlorpyrifos. It is used on beef and dairy cattle to control horn and face flies. Gulf Coast ticks, and ear ticks and helps control stable flies, houseflies, and lice.
