Explanation planning

There are three parts to a good explanation planning, presentation and feedback.

Names or regular job titles of persons or departments who can be contacted for additional information or explanation of duties of the plan (emergency call-out list). 

If an element has a formal system that isn t followed, this suggests either a problem with the system itself (e.g., flawed design, impractical, insufficient detail or explanation) or a failure of management (e.g., inadequate supervision, lack of training, no followthrough or enforcement, or inadequate resources). Whatever the cause, you will want to make note of it and try to address it in your implementation plan.

If the work as called for on the work order is not completed due to lack of insulation, clean-up, tie-ins only being made, etc., but the shutdown portion of the work has been completed, then the first copy of the work order should be retained by the supervisor. The supervisor should then return the work plan to his supervisor denoting the reason for not completing work, explanation of variance, etc. The planning office will prepare a list of incomplete work following the shutdown and forward this list and a copy of the work orders to the appropriate maintenance supervisor for follow-up.

In addition, most expert systems are unable to rephrase an explanation. If the user does not understand the reasoning of the system after being given an initial explanation, there is no Plan B that the ES could use to explain its conclusions in another way.

In practice, most lifetime prediction is based on service experience. Depending on the industry concerned, this can take the form of planned examination of components at the end of their service life or be limited to the explanation of warranty returns. Experience with polymers is now sufficiently long for service experience to be a prime source of information for components with lifetimes of up to 35 years. The construction industry provides a good example of systematic listing of component lifetimes, related to minimum quality levels and modified according to the service conditions. The electrical industry applies statistical methods to life components and predict failures. This, however, strays into the general field of engineering component lifetimes. In this book we are concerned with materials rather than components. 

Richards s demand for an "explanation," not a representation, was a valid concern among chemists concerned with the practical implications in laboratory work of mathematical equations and theoretical speculations. Could one predict and plan chemical syntheses on the basis of knowing the reaction pathway, step by step and molecule by molecule And what triggered a chemical reaction What made a stable substance transform itself and assume a new identity Were there insights from experimental and theoretical physics which now could aid the chemistry of the late nineteenth century ...

Is one specific treatment comparison important . .. any aspects of multiplicity. .. should be identified in the protocol adjustment should always be considered.. .. an explanation of why adjustment is not thought necessary should be set out in the analysis plan. (ICH E9, Section 5.6)... 

Having a client can certainly introduce an element of accountability into what you do. It puts you on the line to deliver a result. It can also help to ensure that the project has corporate value. On the other heind, your own commitment to a personal venture that brings about a corporate benefit should also ensure that. An indirect way of creating a sense of accountability is to make your project public , for example by publishing your project plan with a clear explanation of what you are trjdng to achieve, and perhaps also committing yourself to meike a presentation or circulate a report about the outcome. 

Failure Modes in Management. If the patient has not accepted the principle of drug treatment, then there is a need for renewed explanation and education to lay the groundwork for informed consent regarding a treatment plan. Those who fail to accept the principle of drug treatment usually take little or no medicine, and when they do take an occasional dose, it is often immediately prior to a scheduled visit to the doctor. Pre-visit dosing masks the clinical eye to otherwise poor compliance, but is readily identifiable with proper measurements (Feinstein, 1990).
