Raw materials origin

Anabolism is the building up or biosynthesis, of complex molecules such as protein, nucleic adds and polysaccharides, from raw materials originating from intra- or extracellular sources. The biosyntheses are energy (ATP) requiring processes. 

Many reasons underlie the development of the science and technology of catalysis. One of the driving forces that should not be overlooked is the availability of the raw materials. Originally, biomass was predominant. Later coal became the most important industrial feedstock. Coke oven gas components... 

After the Chemobyl-accident many food products had been contaminated by radioactivity. A first regulation 1707/86 had established limits for Cs 134 and 137 in Bq/ kg. This regulation has been replaced by Council Regulation (Euratom) No 3954/87 [87[. This regulation is of special importance for raw materials originating from Eastern Europe countries. 

Most existing studies concentrate on the selection of active phase and support, and improvement in preparation methods. However, little attention has been paid to the possible influence of industrially produced raw materials origin and nature, that could be of great importance looking forward to industrially applying a catalyst. 

In addition to resin acids, rosin contains neutral materials and oxidized impurities. Tall oil rosin contains about 1-5% fatty acid and small amounts of sulfur compounds and phenolics. In tall oil pitch, which is the bottom fraction in the tall oil distillation process, besides residual amounts of rosin and fatty acids, a substantial amount of unsaponifiable matters has been identified and recovered as B-sitosterol (30). Gum rosin contains large amounts of neutrals that contribute to the typical odor and reduce its tendency to crystallize. The amount of neutral materials present in a rosin largely depends upon the location where the raw material originates and its processing conditions. 

PCL is a biodegradable polyester obtained from raw materials originating from petroleum, through ring opening polymerization of the lactone with suitable catalysts (Figure 2).

In 1916, the first school of Chemistry is established in Mexico. It is worth noting that this school was founded during World War I (191A-1918) an interesting fact is that the Chemistry Institute was founded during World War II (1939-1945). The creation of these institutions was due to the scarcity of raw materials originated by these wars (12).
