Ethylene-octene copolymer, Engage

An investigation is reported of the dynamic mechanical response of aluminium silicate filled closed cell microcellular ethylene-octene copolymer (Engage) vulcanisates. The effect of blowing agent, frequency and temperature on dynamic mechanical properties is studied, and the strain-dependent dynamic mechanical properties of microcellular Engage are also investigated. 25 refs. ENGAGE is an ethylene-octene copolymer. Ray and Bhowmick [70] have prepared nanocomposites based on this copolymer. In this study, the nanoclay was modified in situ by polymerization of acrylate monomer inside the gallery gap of nanoclay. ENGAGE was then intercalated inside the increased gallery gap of the modified nanoclay. The nanocomposites prepared by this method have improved mechanical properties compared to that of the conventional counterparts. Preparation and properties of organically modified nanoclay and its nanocomposites with ethylene-octene copolymer were reported by Maiti et al. [71]. Excellent improvement in mechanical properties and storage modulus was noticed by the workers. The results were explained with the help of morphology, dispersion of the nanofiller, and its interaction with the mbber. [Pg.36]

Engage polyolefin elastomers (POE), ethylene octene copolymer elastomers, produced by DuPont Dow Elastomers, use Insite catalytic technology. Table 3.2 shows their low density and wide range of phys-ical/mechanical properties (using ASTM test methods). ... [Pg.199]

Six companies currently market metallocene plastomers. Exxon Chemical manufactures and markets ethylene-butene and ethylene-hexene copolymers under the EXACT tradename. Dex-Plastomers, a joint venture of Exxon Chemical and DSM, manufactures ethylene-octene copolymers under the EXACT tradename, which are sold by both partners. Dow Chemical and DuPont Dow Elastomers offer ethylene-octene copolymers. Their tradenames are, respectively, AFFINITY and ENGAGE. Japan Polychem manufactures and markets ethylene-hexene copolymers under the KERNEL tradename. Mitsui Petrochemical manufactures propylene, butene, and octene copolymers sold under the TAFMER tradename, along with nonmetallocene plastomers. [Pg.204]

In this study, two kinds of base material were used a prevailingly linear neat PP (PP DM55pharm) and a thermoplastic polyolefin elastomer (Engage 8407), supplied by Borealis and Dow Chemical, respectively. Specific material data can be found on the manufacturers homepages [6, 7]. Engage 8407 is an ethylene-octene copolymer (EOC) with a monomer-ratio of 60% to 40% for ethylene and octene, respectively. It contains untreated talc particles of 1 /an (ave.) in size. Engage 8407, when blended with PP or polyethylene, can improve the overall impact performance and can also act as a melt flow enhancer to aid processing. [Pg.1461]

While the range of the new metallocene-based polymers includes such specialty polymers as cyclo-olelin copolymers (COC), syndiotactic polystyrene, ethylene/ styrene copolymers, which are stiU in the developmental stage, commercially, the most prominent candidates are the elhylene/a-olefin copolymers such as ethylene/ butylene or hexene copolymers (Exxon s Exact ) or ethylene/l-octene copolymers (Dow s Engage and Affinity ). Depending on the comonomer content, these copolymers have been classified as plastomers or elastomers. At comonomer levels of >25 %, the copolymers exhibit the characteristics of thermoplastic elastomers such as high softness, toughness, flexibility, and resilience and hence been referred to as polyolefin elastomers (POE). CompositionaUy, these POEs usually contain 65 % ethylene and 35 % octene-1, hexene-1, or butene-1 as comonomers. [Pg.1758]

EPM [poly(ethylene-co-propylene)] and EPDM [poly(ethylene-co-propylene-co-5-ethylidene-2-norbomene)P can be metallocene catalyst polymerized. Metallocene catalyst technologies include (1) Insite, a constrained geometry group of catalysts used to produce AfiGnity polyolefin plastomers (POP), Elite PE, Nordel EPDM, and Engage polyolefin elastomers (POP) and (2) Exxpol ionic metallocene catalyst compositions used to produce Exact plastomer octene copolymers.2 Insite technology produces EPDM-based Nordel IP with property consistency and predictability (see Sec. 3.2.2). [Pg.229]

Materials. Ethylene-octene rubber (POE)- Engage 8150, copolymer of ethylene and 39 wt.% 1-octene, with a melt flow index (MFI) of 0.5 g/10 min (190 C, 2.16 kg) and Mooney viscosity 35, was purchased from Dow Chemical. As a cross-linker dicumyl peroxide (98%) obtained from Aldrich was used. Nanostructured metal oxides magnesium (50 nm particle size (BET)), zinc (<100 nm particle size (BET)), calcium oxide (160 nm particle size (BET)) and unsaturated acids itaconic (99%), crotonic (98%), sorbic (99%) acid were provided by Aldrich. Composition of typical elastomer blend POE-100 phr, DCP-1.5 phr, metal oxide-7 phr, unsaturated acid-2 phr. [Pg.271]

Thermoplastic polyesters such as PET and PBT can be compatibihsed with DuPont Dow s Engage , which consists of a copolymer of ethylene and octene, by using an ethylene-acrylic or methacrylic copolymer. [Pg.102]
