Ethers, epoxy

The reactivity of T8[OSiMe2H]g is dominated by its capacity to undergo hydrosilylation reactions with a wide variety of vinyl and allyl derivatives (Figure 30) that have subsequently mainly been used as precursors to polymers and nanocomposites by the introduction of reactive terminating functions as shown in Table 19. For example, T8[OSiMe2H]g has been modified with allyglycidyl ether, epoxy-5-hexene, and 1,2-cyclohexene-epoxide to give epoxy-terminated FOSS. These have then been treated with m-phenylenediamine, with polyamic acids or... [Pg.53]

Glycidyl Ethers of Aliphatic Polyols. Glycidyl ether epoxy resins based on polyols provide greater flexibility and lower softening temperatures for the final cured epoxy system. The polyol is reacted with epichlorohydrin to produce these resins. These resins are generally not used alone because of water sensitivity and overall lack of toughness. However, they serve as modifiers for DGEBA-based epoxy resins. An idealized structure for a flexible resin based on this chemistry is shown in Fig. 2.9. [Pg.34]

Special grades of glycidyl ether epoxies have been made with components such as glycerol, polyglycols, pentaerythritol, and cashew nut oil. Other epoxy-polyglycidol resins have been produced from the reaction of epichlorohydrin and polyester polyol based on... [Pg.34]

This paper is a review of studies on the ring-opening polymerization of cyclic ethers, e.g., styrene oxide, phenyl glycldyl ethers, epoxy aldehydes and derived oxacyclic monomers. Model reactions involving ring-opening processes occurring in those compounds have alsobeen discussed. [Pg.205]

Nonglycidyl ether epoxy resins are usually prepared by treating unsaturated compounds with peracetic acid. [Pg.503]

Two types of nonglycidyl ether epoxy resins are commercially available cyclic aliphatic epoxies and acyclic aliphatic epoxies. [Pg.504]

Cyclohexyl acetate [622-45-7] is very slightly miscible with water, but completely miscible with common organic solvents. Its solvency properties are comparable to those of amyl acetate. Cyclohexyl acetate dissolves oils, fats, resins, waxes, cellulose nitrate, cellulose tripropionate and acetobutyrate, alkyd resins, unsaturated and saturated polyester resins, phenolic resins and aminoplasts, poIy(vinyI chloride), vinyl chloride copolymers, poly(vinyl acetate), poly(vinyl ethers), epoxy resins, and acrylic resins, basic dyes, blown oils, crude rubber, metallic soaps, shellac, and bitumen. [Pg.364]

Epoxy adhesives are widely used in electronics assembly and packaging. They are formed by polymerizing epoxy resins having one or more terminal glycidyl ether (epoxy) groups with a variety of curing agents, hardeners, or catalysts. [Pg.77]

The kinetics of curing of a poly(phenylene ether)/epoxy resin system has been investigated by an advanced iso-conversional method. Curing experiments with different PPE/EP ratios were carried out using non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry. It was shown that the curing mechanism of this system is very complicated [21],... [Pg.107]
