Epoxy Acrylate Resins

There are basically two types of epoxy acrylate resins used in formulating adhesive systems. One is a vinyl ester resin that is used in two-component adhesive formulations much as a DGEB A epoxy or a polyester resin is. The other is a special type of resin that is used in radiation cure processes. This latter type of epoxy acrylate does not have any free epoxy groups, but reacts through its unsaturation. [Pg.82]

Epoxy acrylate resins or vinyl esters are made from the esterification of epoxy resin via their terminal group with an unsaturated acid, such as methacrylic acid derived from epoxy resin. A typical reaction sequence is illustrated in Fig. 4.3. The resultant polymer is usually dissolved in a reactive monomer such as styrene. [Pg.82]

The epoxy-acrylic resin referred to above is a graft copolymer prepared by the polymerisation of acrylic monomers in the presence of the epoxy resin in such a way that grafting of the acrylic onto the epoxy takes place. Water dispersibility is achieved by neutralising carboxyl groups in the acrylic polymer chain with ammonia or amine. Amino or phenolic resins are used as crosslinkers. Alternatively, solvent-borne epoxy-amino or epoxy-phenolic lacquers can be used. [Pg.633]

Polyvinyl chloride has been modified by photochemical reactions in order to either produce a conductive polymer or to improve its light-stability. In the first case, the PVC plate was extensively photochlorinated and then degraded by UV exposure in N2. Total dehydrochlorination was achieved by a short Ar+ laser irradiation at 488 nm that leads to a purely carbon polymer which was shown to exhibit an electrical conductivity. In the second case, an epoxy-acrylate resin was coated onto a transparent PVC sheet and crosslinked by UV irradiation in the presence of both a photoinitiator and a UV absorber. This superficial treatment was found to greatly improve the photostability of PVC as well as its surface properties. [Pg.201]

Transparent PVC plates were coated with a 70 pm thick film of an epoxy-acrylate resin containing 0.5 % of a benzotriazole UV absorber. They were first UV cured for one second and then exposed at 40°C to the low intensity radiations of a QUV accelerated weathering tester. The extent of the degradation was followed by Invisible spectroscopy, a very sensitive method that permits detec-... [Pg.215]

S02-cured epoxy resin. Modified epoxy/acrylic resins (1.2 to 1.4% of sand weight) are mixed with organic peroxide (26 to 60% of resin weight), the mixture is blown into the core box and a hardening mechanism similar to the S02 process takes place. [Pg.160]

Table 11.12 shows two rapid-setting, room temperature cure epoxy adhesives based on epoxy acrylate resins with aliphatic amine curing agents. These adhesives have gel times of less than 5 min for a 100-g mass. The bond strength development is rapid with handling strength occurring in about 1 h at room temperature. [Pg.214]

Acrylated Melamine resins were prepared by reacting different levels of acrylamide with a fully alkylated coetherified melamine resin containing methyl and butyl groups at an approximate ratio of 1 1. They were prepared with 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.5 moles of acrylamide per triazine ring. Throughout the paper a bis-phenol A epoxy acrylate resin (Ebecryl 3700 from Radcure Specialties) and an aliphatic urethane acrylate resin (Ebecryl 8800 from Radcure Specialties) are used as controls. [Pg.179]

Kou et al., reported using a hyperbranched acrylated aromatic polyester as a modifier in UV eurable epoxyacrylate resin. The material is compatible with the epoxy-acrylate resins. They found that the photopolymerization rate of the resin is promoted by this modifier. Also, the shrinkage of the resin was redueed. At the same time, the tensile, flexmal, compressive strength, and thermal properties of the ultraviolet light eured films are greatly improved. [Pg.141]

Epoxy acrylate resins are known for their good adhesive properties, high chemical resistance, thermal stability and non-yellowing. [Pg.17]

BMI resins were modified with a wide range of other polymers in order to achieve improved properties. Toughened BMIs may be obtained by using polyetherketones (Han et al. 2009), while enhanced processing characteristics and low dielectric losses may be achieved for BMI by modification with allyl phenyl compounds, allyl epoxy resins, and epoxy acrylate resins (Liang et al. 2007). Flame retardancy was accomplished by modifying BMIs with fully end-capped hyperbranched polysilox-ane (Zhuo et al. 2011a). [Pg.237]
