The two main federal agencies involved in the protection of human health and the environment are the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). EPA s principal concern is the protection of the environment, in most cases, the area outside of an industrial faciUty. There are 10 regional offices that carry out the regulatory functions of the agency (Table 1). Primary laws covered by EPA are the Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and LiabiUty Act (CERCLA), Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), and Eederal Insecticide, Eungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). [Pg.73]

Analytical chemistry is a critical component of worker safety, re-entry, and other related studies intended to assess the risk to humans during and subsequent to pesticide applications. The analytical aspect takes on added significance when such studies are intended for submission to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and/or other regulatory authorities and are thus required to be conducted according to the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Standards, or their equivalent. This presentation will address test, control, and reference substance characterization, use-dilution (tank mix) verification, and specimen (exposure matrix sample) analyses from the perspective of GLP Standards requirements. [Pg.153]

In US, AF products need a registration both at federal and at state level. Registration/regulation of AF paints is governed by the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act FIFRA (US, 2004) and administered by US Environmental Protection Agency. Extensive data packages need to be submitted by the biocide producers and the paint manufacturers. The decision for approval of products is based upon a risk benefit balance evaluation process. [Pg.231]

The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) is the most important of the federal pesticide laws. Originally enacted in 1947, this law was amended in 1972 to become the Federal Environmental Pesticide Control Act (FEPCA), commonly referred to as FIFRA Amended. It has been amended several times since then, most recently in 1996. FIFRA is enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency. [Pg.18]

The 1990 Farm Bill also amended FIFRA to allow the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce or waive the payment of fees for a pesticide that is registered for a minor agricultural use if it is determined that the fee would significantly rednce the availability of the pesticide for the use. [Pg.42]

Two commonly used classification schemes are the one developed by US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) and the one developed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (lARC). The US EPA classification scheme is used as a tool for the regulation of chemicals under those laws it administers (e.g., FIFRA and TSCA) as well as by many state regulatory agencies. The lARC classification... [Pg.435]
