Engine brackets

The cetane engine is a variable compression single cylinder engine very much like the octane engine. The engine is mn at 900 rpm and injection is timed to start at 13° before top dead center (BTDC). The compression ratio is adjusted so that the test fuel starts to ignite at exacdy top dead center (TDC), for an ignition delay of 13° or 2.4 ms. Reference fuels are chosen which bracket the sample and the cetane number of the sample is estimated by interpolation between the two reference fuels. [Pg.192]

This type of damage is dealt with comprehensively in Section 8.8. It can be particularly severe in seawater giving rise to cavitation corrosion or cavitation erosion mechanisms, and hence can be a considerable problem in marine and offshore engineering. Components that may suffer in this way include the suction faces of propellers, the suction areas of pump impellers and casings, diffusers, shaft brackets, rudders and diesel-engine cylinder liners. There is also evidence that cavitation conditions can develop in seawater, drilling mud and produced oil/gas waterlines with turbulent high rates of flow. [Pg.81]

Within a fuzzy system, an inference engine works with fuzzy rules it takes input, part of which may be fuzzy, and generates output, some or all of which may be fuzzy. Although the role of a fuzzy system is to deal with uncertain data, the input is itself not necessarily fuzzy. For example, the data fed into the system might consist of the pH of a solution or the molecular weight of a compound, both of which can be specified with minimal uncertainty.
