Iron Phosphatinq and Cleaning Formulations-Liauid Products 

Blue acid cleaner-phosphating system for use in immersion systems. pH of 3% solution 2.1. 

Liquid acid product used in steam phosphators and steam injection equipment to remove heavy soils and deposit iron phosphate coating. pH of 1% solution 3.55. 

Liquid acid product, slightly viscous, for iron phosphating. pH as is 3.35. Soak or spray process, deposits 40 Mg/ft 2 in one minute.

Metal polishes may contain emulsifiers and thickeners for controlling the consistency and stabilization of abrasive suspensions, and the product form can be solid, paste, or liquid. Liquid and paste products can be solvent or emulsion types the market for the latter is growing. Formulas for metal polishes are listed in Reference 12. A representative liquid emulsion product may contain 8—25 wt % abrasive, 2—6 wt % surfactant, 0—5 wt % chelating agents, and 0—25 wt % solvent, with the remainder being water. The abrasive content in an emulsion paste product is greater than that in a solvent product. 

Is an emulsifier for mineral oils and fats. It is used as a lubricant in the leather Industry and as a napping softener in the textile industry, providing scroop and fiber-to-metal lubricity. TRYDET 2670 Is also used in mineral oil emulsions for polishes and lard oil emulsions for metal buffing compounds, and as an 0/w emulsifier for air fresheners.

In the application of emulsions for cleaning and polishing, a water phase and an oil phase (a selected halogenated solvent) are needed. The emulsions are used in cleaning and polishing the surfaces of metals and other hard surfaces (glass, etc.). 

Emulsification—the formation of emulsions from two immiscible liquid phases—is probably the most versatile property of surface-active agents for practical applications and, as a result, has been extensively studied. Paints, polishes, pesticides, metal cutting oils, margarine, ice cream, cosmetics, metal cleaners, and textile processing oils are all emulsions or are used in emulsified form. Since there are a number of books and chapters of books devoted to emulsions and emulsification (Sjoblom, 1996 Solans and Kunieda, 1996 Becher, 2001), the discussion here covers only those aspects of emulsification that bear on the role of surfactants in this phenomenon.

The manufacture and maintenance of numerous products, particularly those made from metal or glass have contaminants including chips, grease, lubricants, oil emulsions, dust and dirt, as well as grinding and polishing pastes.
