These are formulations designed to counteract the damaging effects caused eifter bathing, e.g. skin drying caused by removal of natural fats and oils from the skin. Several formulations may be used, e.g. lotions and creams, Uquid splashes, dry oil spray, dusting powders or talc, etc. The lotions and creams which are the most commonly used formulations are simply 0/W emulsions with skin conditioners and emollients. The liquid splashes are hydroalcoholic products that contain some oil to provide skin conditioning. They can be applied as a liquid spread on the skin by hand or by spraying. 

Silicones are used as emollients (skin softeners), as lubricants, as thickeners, and as volatile liquids that make coatings feel smooth but evaporate without leaving a greasy residue. 

Ointments are semisolid preparations that are intended for external use. Ointments may contain either finely powdered drugs or their mixtures, liquids, and other drug forms incorporated into appropriate bases. They are applied to the skin for their physical effects as emollients (which make the skin more pliable), protectants, lubricants, and drying agents. Ointment bases are also used as vehicles in which to incorporate topical medications which exert specific effect. There are four types of ointment bases, namely, oleaginous, absorption, water removable, and water soluble bases. 

Lipstick and lip balms are usually concentrated suspensions of solid oils in a liquid oil, or in a mixture of liquid oils. The dispersed phase, about 60 mass%, comprises oils and/or wax that are solid at room temperature. The continuous phase, about 40 mass%, comprises an oil, or mixture of oils, that is liquid at room temperature. These products are formulated at relatively high temperature, where they are liquid, and are then cooled to allow a significant yield stress to develop. These products can be found in light-duty liquids and in some shampoos and detergent bars and are primarily used to enhance skin emolliency and Mcleaning ability. ... 

Hydrocarbon bases are made of oleaginous materials. They provide emollient and protective properties and remain in the skin for prolonged periods. It is difficult to incorporate aqueous phases into hydrocarbon bases. However, powders can be incorporated into these bases with the aid of liquid petrolatum. Removal of hydrocarbon bases from the skin is difficult due to their oily nature. Petrolatum USP, white petrolatum USP, yellow ointment USP, and white ointment USP are examples of hydrocarbon bases. 

Is a liquid ester derived from isostearic acid that exhibits excellent oxidation and color stability. It has unique emollient, lubricating and w/o emulsification properties.

Mineral oil and lanolin alcohols is an oily liquid used in topical pharmaceutical formulations and cosmetics as an emulsifying agent with emollient properties see Table I. It is used as a primary emulsifier in the preparation of water-in-oil creams and lotions and as an auxiliary emulsifier and stabilizing agent in oil-in-water creams and lotions. 

Kaolin A fine clay (China clay essentially a hydrated aluminum silicate). Common usages include porcelain, ceramics, heat-resistant mortar, clarifying liquids, drying and emollient agents, and as filler or coating for paper and textiles. 

If the eczema is dry, emollients can be used to soothe the skin and restore hydration. Emollients are made from liquid paraffin, soft paraffin and various fats and oils formulated into creams, ointments and bath oils with or without antimicrobials.
