Administration of separate isomeric forms of BHC (a, 6) produced liver tumors and lung metastases in mice, whether bred for a low or high incidence of spontaneous tumors (ref. 100). The toxic effects of lindane are very similar to those of DDT. Degeneration of kidney tubules, liver damage associated with fatty tissue, and hystoplastic anemia have been observed in individuals poisoned by lindane.

The action of lindane against insc cls is threefold it is a direct contact poison, it has a fumigant effect, and it acts as a stomach poison. The effect of lindane on insects is similar 10 that of DDT. Its toxicity in humans is somewhat lower than that of DDT. Because of its lipid solubility properties, however, lindane when ingested lends to accumulate in the body.
