Effect of Fiber Length

Composites having fiber length of 10 mm with bonding agent (resorcinol-formaldehyde resin) showed maximum mechanical properties compared to all other composites. Similarly, in oil pahn-NR composites Joseph et al. [15] indicated that the mechanical properties will depend upon the fiber length. In the case of sisal-oil palm hybrid N R composites, all mechanical properties were at a maximum when the length of the sisal and oil pahn fibers were 10 and 6 mm, respectively [5]. [Pg.294]

Table XI demonstrates the effect of fiber length on properties for a type of RIM processable material - the urethane modified isocyanurate which has low impact. Table XI ccnpares milled glass fibers with 1/8" chapped strand. The longer aspect length chopped strand provides for true reinforcement. However, it cannot be used in current RRIM equipment. Notched Izod impact strength tests have been conducted on the effect of fiber length in a nylon 6/6 compound reinforced with 50 wt% glass fiber. It shows that impact strength of reinforced TPs (RTPs) increases significantly, as fiber length is increased. Similar effects have been measmed with other fibers, such as aramid and carbon, and with other matrices, such as polypropylene and polyphenylene sulphide. [Pg.33]

Therefore, we aim to answer the following questions in this study (1) a proper coating agent to enhance the shape fixity and dispersion ability of the strain hardened short SMPFs (2) the ability for strain hardened SMPU fibers to repeatedly heal wide-opened cracks and (3) the effect of fiber length on the healing efficiency. [Pg.315]

Melt mixing and solution mixing methods were used to prepare short pineapple leaf fiber-LDPE composites. Effects of fiber length, content, and orientation on the mechanical properties have been studied. The mechanical properties were improved while the elongation at break was found to be reduced. Longitudinally oriented composites describe better properties compared to transversely and... [Pg.388]
