Econometric modelling

For such kinds of analysis, four different methodological approaches are normally used for analysis in the energy sector input-output, general equilibrium, system dynamics and econometric models. [Pg.529]

Clearly, econometric models must be redeveloped to show how policy changes will transform the economic structure of the economy and how this structural transformation will result in new trends. [Pg.118]

The data base for these new econometric models must include not only management s historical responses to past policies and economic conditions, but management s anticipated responses to future policies and economic conditions. [Pg.118]

Use of the equilibrium results to develop new transactions tables for an energy/materials microcosm of the economy showed a serious economic shortcoming of both policy alternatives. As modeled, the President s policy and the Advisory Council s policy would increase, rather than decrease, the direct plus indirect input requirements of the three basic conversion industries (petroleum refining, electric power, basic chemicals) from petroleum mining sources. Also, both policy recommendations would decrease, rather than increase, the direct plus indirect input requirements of these three industries from the coal mining sector. This economic implications, which evidently was not captured by state-of-the-art econometric models, means that neither policy recommendation is sufficient to transition the economy from petroleum to alternate energy resources see Thompson (7). [Pg.124]

In general, policy analysts use two structural types of models to make forecasts of future activity levels econometric and engineering or process models. Econometric models use historic data and relationships to estimate future trends in variables of interest. Engineering or process models use the physical relationships of production processes (i.e., the relationship between inputs to a production process and its outputs) to predict levels of the dependent variables. In general, the use of econometric modeling techniques to forecast activity levels provides a better long-term (beyond 20 years) trend because it relies on long-term, historical... [Pg.367]

The modeling approach starts with construction of an econometric model based on historic supply, demand, and price data. A simulation will then be mn to study the impact of introduction of fuel cell vehicles on the supply and price of platinum. Figure 1 illustrates the steps in the modeling approach, and Figure 2 shows the stmcture and outputs of the econometric model. [Pg.515]

Automotive catalysts and jewelry are the two dominant markets for platinum (approximately 80%) and are important elements in the econometric model. The investment industry consumes a minor amount of material but can exert significant influence on short-term price. However, over long periods of time, investment should have zero impact on supply and demand. [Pg.515]

Under Hanemann s (1984, 1989) well known linkage between random utility maximization and the functional form of econometric models with a binary dependent variable, a logit model has been estimated on SB-CVM data. It explains the log-odds ratio as a linear function of several household attributes (including income level as a covariate) and of the percentage premium price proposed (Franses and Paap, 2001 Gourieroux, 2000). Median WTP and truncated mean WTPs (both only at zero and between zero and 100%) have been calculated according to Hanemann and Kanninen... [Pg.131]

Many complex physical, geometrical, and stochastic (probabilistic) phenomena are described by PDEs, equations involving two or more independent variables. They are, not surprisingly, much more difficult to solve than ODEs. Some applications, including weather prediction, econometric models, fluid dynamics, and nuclear engineering, might involve simultaneous PDEs with large numbers of varibles. Such problems are best tackled by powerful supercomputers. We will be content to consider a few representative second-order PDEs for which analytic solutions are possible. [Pg.235]

Multivariate Forecasts of a given variable depend at least partly on values of one or more additional variables, called explanatory variables. Models of this type are usually called causal models, and include Multiple Regression, and Econometric Models. [Pg.49]

The mode econometric model of job safety has been based on a reduced form equation such as... [Pg.14]

For a more complete picture of how safety policy affects labor market outcomes, including worker well-being, a researcher needs to examine the structural equations that underlie the popular regression equation summarized by (1.1). The canonical structural econometric model of the labor market where a sorting of workers into jobs yields a set of wage and safety levels for each job and worker, known as hedonic labor market equilibrium, has the three stochastic equations... [Pg.15]

Each of the policies have several options and a selection of policy implies the need for the establishment of the necessary parameter expressed in a specific value. If the policies are an objective element of the programming process, the establishment of their parameters is a subjective exercise if econometric models, allowing even ample simulation, are not available. In our case, the policies and thrar parameters can be checked in the technological structures, preselected from the previous step. [Pg.548]

We consider hybrid models are those models, which consider both supply and demand and consider both energy and non energy variables. Energy input-output models, energy econometric models, scenario analysis, energy decision support systems can be considered for hybrid type of models. [Pg.203]
