Efficient and defect-free folding of the polymer will, at least, require a control of the regioselectivity of monomer incorporation and polymer tacticity. If, for example, the degree of tacticity control is poor, the stereochemical defects are irreversibly incorporated into the polymer, and the subsequent folding may fail or produce defective structures. By contrast, dynamic self-assembly may allow defects to be corrected and the hierarchical structure to be controlled or fine-tuned using external parameters (solvent, additives, temperature) prior to covalent fixation by polymerization. [Pg.79]

The dynamic self-assembly processes of such supramolecular systems undergoing continous reversible exchange between different self-organized entities in solution may in principle be connected to kinetically controled sol-gel process in order to extract and select an amplified supramolecular device under a specific set of experimental conditions. Such dynamic marriage between supramolecular self-assembly and in sol-gel polymerization processes which synergistically might communicate leads to constitutionnal hybrid materials. ... [Pg.44]

Dynamic self-assembly of supramolecular systems prepared under thermodynamic control may in principle be connected to a kinetically controlled sol-gel process in order to extract and select the interpenetrated hybrid networks. Such dynamic convergence between supramolecular self-assembly and inorganic sol— gel processes, which synergistically communicate, leads to higher self-organized hybrid materials with increased micrometric scales. [Pg.49]

The principal motivation for studying these sugar-based microemulsion glasses came from the observation that water-oil-surfactant mixtures are extensively for nanomaterials synthesis with the central idea of switching dynamic self-assembly into chemically and mechanically stable supramolecular materials. Template polymerisations are classified as synergistic or transcriptive templating depending on whether the template itself participates in the reaction. [Pg.221]

It is understood that nanotechnology is hunting for simple and versatile bottom-up self-assembly-based processes to assemble and (re)organize molecules and/or nanoparticles into well-defined functional superstructures in multiple dimensions over multiple length scales for many advanced technological applications. LCs are emerging as the viable systems for the dynamic self-assembly of nanomaterials in LC media as well as molecular dynamic self-assembly of LC molecules themselves. For example, it has been demonstrated that LCs enable reconfigurable and switchable... [Pg.419]

DOX-loaded silica nanostructures exhibiting superb drug release behavior, which is controlled by varying the pH was reported by Tan et al. (2011). Porous hollow silica nanoparticles (HSNS) have been successfully fabricated by a novel combination of stabilizing condensation and dynamic self-assembly. Further, encapsulation of organic molecules into HSNS and their controlled release were... [Pg.415]

There are two major types of self-assembly, static and dynamic [5]. Static self-assembly describes the process that the ordered state occurs when the system is in equilibrium and does not dissipate energy. One special example of static self-assembly is the formation of atomic, ionic, and molecular crystals [6-8]. In dynamic self-assembly, the process occurs only if the system is dissipating energy. The patterns formed in oscillating chemical reactions are simple examples [9,10]. [Pg.2960]

In addition to dendrimers (32, 37) and clusters (33-36, 38, 39), two of the main avenues of pursuit by chemists for multivalent display of carbohydrates are neoglycopolymers (8, 40-43), and dynamic self-assembled systems (44-50) such as liposomes and micelles. Pseudopolyrotaxanes (1-4) and polyrotaxanes (18, 19) incorporate the advantages of both the polymeric and dynamic approaches. [Pg.357]
