In prosthetics, stainless steel Bowden cables come in three sizes Light Duty, Standard Duty, and Heavy Duty.

We are confident that any user of this combined evaluation technique, as well as the development of future test standards for manual ultrasonic testing will benefit from this result, because it allows a greater flexibility in the applicable method without loosing reliability. Often an expensive production of a reference block can be avoided and therefore testing costs are reduced. For 1994 standards and beyond, heavy-duty tmcks must meet standards which reflect the greatest degree of emission reduction achievable through available technology. 

A set of intermediate in-use standards also appHes during the phase-in period, 1994—1997 for passenger cars and small light-duty tmcks, and 1996—1998 for larger light-duty tmcks. 

The nearest standard rating to this is 7.5 kW, and a motor of this rating will suit the duty cycle. To ensure that it can also meet the torque requirement of 10.5 kW, it should have a minimum pull-out torque of 10.5/7.5 or 140% with the slip at this point as low as possible so that when operating at 140%... 

Many crane manufacturers specify that the motor should be suitable for half an hour or one hour duration according to the British practice still followed in some countries. In fact, it is not possible to correlate precisely these ratings with any of the duty factors. Hence the motors are designed for any of the duty factors of 15%, 25%, 40% and 60%. In fact the duty factors for different types of cranes have been standardized, depending upon their operation, after several years of experience. Manufacturers Association (lEEMA) has issued a standard on crane duty motors in which an attempt is made to list the outputs against the lEC frames for. S, -6. S -150 and 5 s-300 starts/hour duty types. 

For all the applications discussed above, which may require special starting and/or pull-out torques or speed variations, the use of static drives is more appropriate today. With the use of this technology, a standard motor can be made to perform any required duty, except the constructional features and the applicable deratings as discussed in Chapter 1. See also Example 7.1. 

Tbe use of special motors was more relevant until the 1980s. when solid-state technology was still in its infancy and wa.s not so widely applied. With the advent of static drives, as discus.sed in Sections 6.2-6.4, the use of standard motors is gradually becoming more common for all these applications. The drive it.self can alter the supply parameters to the required level to make a standard motor operate and perform within desired parameters, besides conserving energy. The purpose of describing a few of these applications is only to indicate their non-standard features, where a standard motor with normal controls may not be able to perform the required duties. 

The type of duly defines the capacity of a switch or a contactor by the value of the current and the p.f. of the associated circuit, it can make or break on fault. For value.s of currents and p.f. for different duties, refer to the relevant standards as noted above. 

Ambient temperature, altitude and atmospheric conditions at the place of installation of electrical equipment are considered to be the service conditions for the equipment to operate and perform its duties. All electrical equipment is designed for specific service conditions and variations may influence its performance. Below we analyse the influence of such non-standard service conditions on the performance of equipment and the required safeguards to achieve its required performance. 

Consider the situation where the loading stress on a eomponent is given as Z, A (350,40) MPa relating to a Normal distribution with a mean of /i = 350 MPa and standard deviation cr = 40 MPa. The strength distribution of the eomponent is A (500, 50) MPa. It is required to find the reliability for these eonditions using eaeh approaeh above, given that the load will be applied 1000 times during a defined duty eyele.
