Drive elements

This type of seal has the rotary component and face mounted outside the seal chamber. The springs and drive elements are outside the pumped liquid. This reduces the problems associated with corrosion and the accumulation of pumped product clogging the springs. This seal is popular in the food processing industry. The pumped liquid arrives to the inside diameter of the faces and seals toward the outside diameter. The environment outside the pump approaches the OD of the face union. Pressures are limited to about 35 psig. Sometimes this. seal can be mounted either inside or outside the pump. This seal is easy to install, adjust, and maintain. It permits easy access and cleaning of the pump internal parts, often required in the food processing industry. [Pg.186]

GE Advanced Materials has been for several years - and still is - a benchmark in the chemical industry when it comes to making individual evaluation the key driving element of corporate performance management. [Pg.317]

This is a company internal objective that is also driven by external factors, between which social pressure and legislation from one side and market competiveness driven by innovation from the other side are the driving elements. Owing to global competiveness, the effectiveness of these driving forces to foster innovation is related to the capacity to introduce in the product value elements that account for how the product (and related chain of production) impact on the environment, as well risks, are minimized. Chapter 5 discusses these aspects and the modalities to quantify sustainability of chemical production. [Pg.73]

Applications related to science and art will also evolve rapidly, but the speed will be less impressive than in the commercial area, although internal interest and motivation complement specific market drive elements here. [Pg.251]

Hydraulie drive elements like these are also the driving forces on injection molding machines. Figure 6-2 shows how the movement of a hydrauhc ram moves the toggle lever elamping unit of an injection molding machine. [Pg.64]

Cost performance is concerned with every aspect of the life cycle. It is the fundamental driving element within the aviation industry and air transport market, along with safety. AU associated and relevant industry activities are assessed and even enabled by effective cost performance. From a depth perspective, all of the relevant disciplines and parameters for an aircraft or within air transport are highly interrelated and mutually influential, including for examples aerodynamics, materials, structures, systems (such as avionics, hydraulics and power), cost, market demand, environment impact and energy utilisation. [Pg.577]

In this section some examples of precision engineering prototypes are presented that apply electrically heated shape memory actuators as driving elements. Further on flexure hinges of pseudo-elastic SM alloys will be presented. [Pg.159]

Tadokoro, S., Murakami, T., Fuji, S., Karmo, R., Hattori, M., Takamori, T., Oguro, K. An elliptic friction drive element using an ICPF (ion conducting polymer gel film) actuator. In Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, pp. 205-212 (1996)... [Pg.234]

Conjugated polymer actuators are good candidates for driving active catheters, due to their low voltage ( 2 V), high strain (typically 2 % or greater), low cost and biocompatibility [42]. The relatively high stiffness of these materials (elastic moduli of 1 GPa [42]), also makes them suitable for use as active catheter drive elements. [Pg.238]

The plastic material is mostly powdery. The dosed material is then inserted into the one- or multi-part mold. With the given part size and surface geometry, the amount of the plastic material determines the wall thickness of the hollow part. The filled and closed rotational mold (using clamping elements) is attached to the mold carriers, which are attached to the machine and drive elements. [Pg.184]

Current approaches to segmentation may drive elements of logistics strategy to a limited extent, or they may have no relevance in logistics terms. Segmentation in the CleanCo case (Case study 2.3 above) was based on national accounts and field sales, that is, by accoimt size. This was in line with the way that sales and... [Pg.50]

Another common retarding element used in spectroscopic ellipsometers is the photoelastic modulator (PEM), shown schematically in Figure 2C. The drive element is a crystal quartz bar, which is cut so that an a.c. voltage V applied to the front and back faces causes the bar to vibrate along its long axis at the frequency of V. The optical element is a bar made of fused quartz that is placed in intimate contact with the crystal quartz bar so that it vibrates at the same frequency. Both bars are sized so that the vibrations are resonant, making the frequency of the PEM extremely stable. A polarizer-PEM pair produces dynamically elliptically polarized light if the polarizer... [Pg.403]

For high-speed response, thinning the LC layer is one conceivable method. Thus it is necessary to increase the optical properties of the LC materials, which in turn necessitates future material development. Ferroelectric LCs use the interaction of the electric field with the spontaneous polarization of the LC molecules for highspeed switching, but the problems are the stable molecular alignment in thin-gap cells and the increase of the speed of the current supply of the drive elements because of the relatively high dielectric constant of ferroelectrics, as compared to a nematic LC. [Pg.151]

Non-self-supporting models. Where the hydrodynamic brake is fitted in a machine or drive element, use is made of the existing bearings. The rotor is fitted overhimg on the shaft and the braking torque is transmitted to the machine housing. [Pg.115]
