Sterilization dressings

Individually wrapped adhesive dressings (sterile gauze pads, rolls of gauze bandage, field dressings, triangular bandages)... [Pg.93]

Minor—wash thoroughly with soap or disinfectant and water until absolutely clean. Apply sterile dressing. [Pg.527]

For more serious cuts, where bleeding is profuse, apply pressure with a thick sterile (or at least clean) pad, dressing, or towel over the area. If an arteiy is spurting, try to minimise bleeding by applying pressure immediately above and below the cut. [Pg.527]

In radiation sterilization of disposable supplies such as hypodermic syringes, needles, catheters, and sterile dressings in medicine. [Pg.906]

After the tape mask removal the exudate is cleaned by sterile saline. Spot peeling and retaping may be done if the skin looks underpeeled, particularly in areas with severe wrinkling. It is usually accompanied by a short-duration burning sensation. The tape is left for an additional 4-6 h and then removed by the patient. We cover the face with bismuth subgalate antiseptic powder for 7 days (Fig. 8.10). Other options include occlusive moisturizers, antibiotic ointments, and biosynthetic occlusive dressings such as Meshed Omiderm. [Pg.79]

D-value (decimal reduction time, DRT) is the time in minutes required to destroy 90% of a population of cells. The D-value has little relevance to the sterilization of medicines for injection, surgical instruments or dressings, where a process designed to kill all living spores must be developed. The D-value is used extensively in the food industry. [Pg.13]

Sterilization is an essential stage in the processing of aity product destined for parenteral administration, or for contact with broken skin, mucosal surfaces or internal organs, where the threat of infection exists, hi addition, the sterilization of microbiological materials, soiled dressings and other contaminated items is necessary to minimize the health hazard associated with these articles. [Pg.385]

Drying or cooling. Dressings packs and other porons loads may become dampened during the sterilization process and mnst be dried before removal fiom the chamber. This is achieved by steam exhanst and application of a vacnum, often assisted by heat from the steam-filled jacket if fitted. After drying, atmospheric pressure within the chamber is restored by admission of sterile filtered air. [Pg.397]

Dressings are described in the British Pharmacopoeia (1993). Methods for their sterilization include autoclaving, dry heat, ethylene oxide and ionizing radiation. Any... [Pg.419]

A reeent development is the use of spray-on dressings. A convenient type is an acrylie polymer dissolved in ethyl aeetate and packed as an aerosol. This should be self-sterilizing. The film after applieation is able to maintain the sterility of a clean wound for up to 2 weeks. However, they can only be used on clean, relahvely dry wounds. [Pg.421]

Specific details of the sterility testing of parenteral products, ophthalmic and other non-injectable preparations, catgut, surgical dressings and dusting powders will be found in the British and European pharmacopoeias. [Pg.449]

Instantly Lionel picks it up, pulls open a drawer, and extracts a folded duster. He polishes the book and, holding it in the duster as a doctor might use surgical gloves, rewraps it in its sterile dressing and slips it back into its place. Only then does he say, So, what do you think of it ... [Pg.99]

That s an attitude you might hold while working in the laboratory. You are NOT going to do anything, or get anything done to you, that will require medical attention. If you do get cut, and the cut is not serious, wash the area with water. If there s serious bleeding, apply direct pressure with a clean, preferably sterile, dressing. For a minor bum, let cold water run over the burned area. For chemical bums to the eyes or skin, flush the area with lots of water. In every case, get to a physician if at all possible. [Pg.5]

Use sterile glove and tongue blade to apply medication apply a thin layer (1.5 mm) to completely cover wound dressing as required only... [Pg.1129]

Partial-thickness burns, on the other hand, do cause blistering of the skin and should be treated immediately. These burns should be immersed in warm water and then wrapped in a sterile dressing or bandage. (Do not apply butter or grease to these burns despite the old adage, butter does not help burns heal and actually increases the chance of infection.) If partial-thickness burns cover a large... [Pg.139]

Full-thickness burns are those that char the skin and turn it black, or burn so deeply that the skin shows white. These burns usually result from direct contact with flames and have a great chance of becoming infected. All full-thickness burns should receive immediate hospital care. They should not be immersed in water, and charred clothing should not be removed from the victim. If possible, a sterile dressing or bandage should be applied to burns before the victim is transported to the hospital. [Pg.139]
