Now consider some examples of the influence of sedimentation process upon PT sensitivity. Let us consider the application of fine-dispersed magnesia oxide powder as the developer. Using the methods described in [4] we experimentally determined the next characteristics of the developer s layer IT s 0,5, Re s 0,25 pm. We used dye sensitive penetrant Pion , which has been worked out in the Institute of Applied Physics of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Its surface tension ct = 2,5 10 N m V It can be shown that minimum width of an indication of magnesia powder zone, imbibed by Pion , which can be registered, is about W s 50 pm. Assume that n = 1.

The claims for discovery and the naming of Element 104 are still in question. The Berkeley group proposes for the new element the name rutherfordium (symbol Rf), in honor of Ernest R. Rutherford, a New Zealand physicist. Meanwhile, the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics has proposed using the neutral temporary name, unnilquadium.

Conventional coal cleaning processes can remove about 50% of pyritic sulfur and 30% of total sulfur. For northern Appalachian region coals it has been shown that a greater sulfur reduction can be achieved by applying physical coal cleaning to finer size coals (Table 3) (8).

Something rather different was the set of 7 volumes of the International Critical Tables masterminded by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, edited by Edward Washburn, and given the blessing of the International Research Council (the predecessor of the International Council of Scientific Unions, ICSU). This appeared in stages, 1926-1933, once only when Washburn died in 1934, the work died with him . This last quotation comes from a lively survey of the history of ICSU (Greenaway 1996) this book has an entire chapter devoted to Data, and Scientific Information . 

The chemical process industries (CPI), petroleum and allied industries apply physical as well as chemical methods to the conversion of raw feedstock materials into salable products. Because of the diversity of products, process conditions and requirements, equipment design is often unique, or case specific. The prime requirement of any piece of equipment is that it performs the function for which it was designed under the intended process operating conditions, and do so in a continuous and reliable manner. Equipment must have mechanical reliability, which is characterized by strength, rigidness, steadiness, durability and tightness. Any one or combination of these characteristics may be needed for a particular piece of equipment.
