Disturbance of glucose metabolism

It enhances cholinergic transmission and improves cerebral microcirculation in ischemic regions. It protects the neurons against hypoxia disturbance of glucose metabolism. 

Tacrolimus is a macrolide immunosuppressant agent that is isolated from a bacterium. It acts like ciclosporin and is used to protect and treat liver and kidney grafts when conventional immunosuppressants fail. Such rescue treatment may be graft-or life-saving. Tacrolimus may cause nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity, disturbance of glucose metabolism, hyperkalaemia and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

This approach to the design of structures that mimic the diuretic activity of the mercurials has led to the extremely potent compounds that lack certain of the disadvantages of the mercury-containing drugs and may share, in part, a common mechanism of action. However, other desirable attributes of the mercurials have not been reproduced. Ethacrynic acid, the only compound that has had extensive study both in animals and in man, causes potassium loss and uric acid retention and perhaps some disturbance of glucose metabolism although this latter effect appears to be minimal compared to that observed with many diuretics of the sulfonamide class. 

CO poisoning leads to several abnormalities such as generation of oxidants, lipid peroxidation, disturbance in glucose metabolism, and so on, which compound the toxic effect of CO caused by hypoxia measures other than oxygen are intended to deal with these secondary changes.

By definition all hormones affect the behavior of their target cells. Examples of the interplay between endocrine disturbances and their biochemical consequences are provided by some of the diseases of the thyroid, which directly affects basal metabolic rate, and diabetes mellitus, where glucose metabolism is deranged. 

Their relative blood concentrations are an expression of nutritional balance, providing a view of the metabolic disturbances arising in a patient. In conjunction with the measurement of unesterified fatty acids (UEFA) and glucose, they are useful tools with which to investigate intermediary metabolism in health and disease, particularly in inherited metabolic diseases. 

As a pantothenic acid analogue, hopantenate can affect lactate generation, glucose metabolism, and ammonia disposal, and there have been two fatal cases in elderly people who developed disturbances of consciousness with lactic acidosis, hypoglycemia, and hyperammonemia (903). 

Loop and thiazide diuretics may also impair glucose and lipid metabolism, and it has been suggested that high doses of these agents may predispose some patients to type 2 diabetes mellitus.1,13 Although the exact risk of such metabolic disturbances is not known, the long-term use of these drugs has been questioned.67 Nonetheless, concerns about metabolic side effects can be minimized if low doses are administered.13... 

Adverse Effects. Common side effects of tacrolimus include gastrointestinal disturbances (cramps, nausea, diarrhea, constipation), weakness, fever, and skin rashes and itching. More serious problems include renal and central nervous system (CNS) toxicity (headache, anxiety, nervousness, seizures).41 Tacrolimus is also associated with problems with glucose metabolism (hyperglycemia, glucose intolerance), and can cause diabetes mellitus in certain individuals.73...
