Dilution ratio

The dilution ratio is the maximum number of units of diluent that can be added to unit volume of solvent before precipitation occurs. Cellulose nitrate dissolved in an oxygenated solvent (8 wt% resin) is the most classical method to determine dilution ratio used to evaluate toluene as a standard diluent and to compare different diluents and solvents with a standard solvent (n-butyl acetate). The standard dilution ratio of toluene by n-butyl acetate [Pg.1057]

Similar method can be used for any resin, solvent, or diluent. A solution of resin is prepared by the method described in ASTM D 1725 or by dispersing in blender (results may differ). Precipitation with diluent is determined at 25 C. The diluent is added dropwise from burette or weight is controlled throughout the experiment. The resin dilutabihty is recorded. If more than 100 g of diluent is required for 10 g of solution then diluent is regarded as being infinitely soluble. [Pg.1058]

Heptane miscibihty in lacquer solvents is determined by mixing equal amounts of the specimen (lacquer) and heptane. If a clear solution results after mixing, it indicates good miscibility. If a turbid solution results, either the heptane is immiscible with the tested specimen or water is present in either component. [Pg.1058]

Water-insoluble admixtures in solvents may affect many uses of solvent. The specimen solvent (primarily acetone, isopropanol, methanol, and many other) is diluted to 10 volxunes with water and the resulting turbidity or cloudiness is recorded.  [Pg.1058]


Because tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol is virtuaHy colorless, it is used in lacquer formulations for aH colors as weU as water-white clear products. More speciftcaHy, tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol is a wetting dispersant for most pigments. It has a high boiling point, high toluene dilution ratio, and good miscibility with oils, eg, linseed and soya, and is an exceUent solvent for a wide range of resins. [Pg.82]

Another dynamic iastmment, the Scentometer, is the basis for odor regulations ia the states of Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Nevada, and Wyoming, and ia the District of Columbia (324). The portable Scentometer (Bameby-Cheney) can produce dilution ratios up to 128 1 ia the field. The Scentometer blends two air streams, one of which has been deodorized with activated carbon. As a general rule, however, textile fibers do not wet out readily, are difficult to disperse, and tend to tangle with one another. The first element, dynamic dilution, provides a reproducible sample for each panelist. Reports of depolymerization studies carried out by Semiyen and co-workers at the University of York, UK, typically used much longer reaction times (24-72 h) for the depolymerization of PET [27], This group also reported that the titanates were ineffective catalysts for depolymerization, but it is not known whether measures to prevent titanate hydrolysis were taken. The York group also reported that the relative proportions of cyclic oligomers (trimer, tetramer, etc.) altered as the dilution ratio was changed. Similar results were seen with PBT. Furthermore, the olfactometer should be able to deliver the above mentioned ranges of stimuli over a wide range of dilution ratios (from 1 to 10 6) in order to cover the variability of human sensitivity to different substances. Hydrothermal venting injects fluids into seawater as buoyant, jetlike pliunes. These turbulent flows mix rapidly with seawater becoming diluted by factors of lO" to 10.
