Digestive problems

Lipids present in the diet may become rancid. When fed at high (>4-6%) levels, Hpids may decrease diet acceptabiUty, increase handling problems, result in poor pellet quaUty, cause diarrhea, reduce feed intake, and decrease fiber digestion in the mmen (5). To alleviate the fiber digestion problem, calcium soaps or prilled free fatty acids have been developed to escape mminal fermentation. These fatty acids then are available for absorption from the small intestine (5). Feeding whole oilseeds also has alleviated some of the problems caused by feeding Hpids. A detailed discussion of Hpid metaboHsm by mminants can be found (16). 

Another difficulty is finding a bathroom to use. I use restrooms in grocery and health food stores, but I m not comfortable going to the same place on a regular basis. I feel like I m developing digestive problems from not releasing when I need to. 

The FDA issued a consumer advisory in 2001 about the dietary supplement comfrey (Symphytum officionale, Symphytum aspe-rum, and Symphytum x. uplandicum), sometimes recommended for digestive problems, because the product may be associated with liver disease. 

Another established application in the dairy industry is the hydrolysis of lactose in milk and whey by lactases. Diminished digestibility problems, increased sweetness and prevention of lactose-crystal formation are the results. The lactose hydrolysis is worked out as a case later in this chapter (section 3.6).

Various ancient manuscripts contain instructions for treating coughs and digestive problems with the root.

Headache, muscular pain, neuralgia, general debility, digestive problems, baldness... 

Food combining (the Hay diet ) advises against combining starch and sugar with protein and acid fruits. At least 4 h should separate starch and protein meals. Protein, starch, and fats are eaten in small quantities, and all refined and processed foods are prohibited. This diet is said to improve arthritis and digestive problems. 

Turmeric is highly regarded in Ayurvedic medicine, especially as a remedy for jaundice and digestive problems (see Chapter 19). 

Symptoms of dehciency include fatigue, low blood sugar, numbness, digestive problems, and lowered immunity.

Digestive problems (e.g., stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, or weight gain or loss)... 

Species in the genus Amomum are also used in traditional Indian medicine. Among other species, varieties and cul-tivars, A. villosum is used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat stomach aches, constipation, dysentery and other digestive problems. 

Anise leaves are used to treat digestive problems and to relieve toothache, and its essential oil is used to treat lice and scabies. In aromatherapy, aniseed essential oil is used to treat colds and flu. It is also being researched for the treatment of bird flu (Waumans et al., 2006). 

Due to its medicinal value, tamarind is used as an Ayurvedic medicine for gastric and/or digestion problems. Tamarind pulp alone, or in combination with limejuice, honey, milk, dates, spices or camphor, is used as a digestive, even for elephants (Morton, 1987). 

As discussed in Section 19.3.5.3, mimicking human digestion for the assessment of Se-bioavailability could be practically regarded as early examples of sequential enzymatic sample preparation applying, for example, proteolytic (pepsin), mixed (pancreatin), and non-proteolytic (amylase) enzymes, and digestive compounds like bile salts for lipid emulsification. On the other hand, the simultaneous use of enzymes was not considered a source of self-digestion problems as this phenomenon is common in the digestive tract. 

High levels of phosphorus are not toxic, but can cause digestive problems. The allowable drinking water concentration is 0.05 ppm. 

In a further study carried out by OBEPAB in 2004 which interviewed 197 villagers, all recorded some impacts from pesticide exposure. A medical study of 14 farmers from nine small villages found similar problems. The medical investigation recorded pesticide incidents and symptoms, and foimd that some people have been incapacitated for life they have lost visual acuity, experience regular pain from conjunctivitis, and suffer serious metabolic and digestion problems. ... 

Hepatitis Inflammation of the liver, usually because of infection with a virus, laundice, weakness, and digestive problems are common symptoms that may last for weeks or months. There is no specific treatment.
