Digestion partial

Mercerized cellulose fibers have improved luster and do not shrink further. One of the main reasons for mercerizing textiles is to improve their receptivity to dyes. This improvement may result more from the dismption of the crystalline regions rather than the partial conversion to a new crystal stmcture. A good example of the fundamental importance of the particular crystal form is the difference in rate of digestion by bacteria. Bacteria from cattle mmen rapidly digest Cellulose I but degrade Cellulose II very slowly (69). Thus aHomorphic form can be an important factor in biochemical reactions of cellulose as well as in some conventional chemical reactions. 

Elemental analysis of organie and inorganie samples requires partial or total dissolution of the sample prior to speetrometrie analysis. Mierowave-assisted extraetion (MAE) provides an alternative to traditional digestion methods and it is reeognized as one of the most effieient methods for the dissolution of soil samples. 

In plants with primary and secondary digester, raw sludge is pumped to the primary digester displacing partially digested sludge. 

Completely digested sludge usually filters more readily than partially digested sludge.

Part of the diet consists of fats, which are triglycerol esters of fatty acids (FAs). The FAs from digestion of ingested fats can be metabolized in a variety of pathways. Fragments of the original FAs are preserved in these processes and can be utilized in the biosynthesis of other molecules. It is important to note that, during metabolism, almost all FAs are broken down into two-carbon units. The only exceptions are FAs with odd numbers of carbon atoms these are relatively rare in the diet. It ean be shown further that there is a partial barrier to the incorporation of FA-derived carbon into the amino acids which constitute collagen.
