For each tube, the analyst carefully examines the complete eddy current record. Any indication above the detection threshold that did not lead to a confirmed computer diagnostic is manually examined. [Pg.1023]

Digital Field Communications An increasing number of valve-mounted devices are available that support digital communications in addition to, or in place of, the traditional 4—20 mA current signal. These control-valve devices have increased functionality, resulting in reduced setup time, improved control, combined functionality of traditionally separate devices, and control-valve diagnostic capabihty. Digital communications also allow the control system to become completely distributed where, for example, the process PID controller could reside in the valve positioner or in the process transmitter. [Pg.786]

Figure 18.24(b) illustrates the use of a leakage current monitor. The instrument can be used to display or monitor on a computer remotely and store data at intervals as required to provide diagnostic information. Now it is easier to take corrective measures in time. The instrument can also be programmed to give an alarm at a preset value of I, when the actual operating conditions exceed this. [Pg.619]

The slope of the Tafel curve drj/d log / is only one of the criteria that are required to determine the mechanism of the h.e.r., since different mechanisms, involving different r.d.s. often have the same Tafel slope. Parameters that are diagnostic of mechanism are the transfer coefficient, the reaction order, the stoichiometric number, the hydrogen coverage, the exchange current density, the heat adsorption, etc. [Pg.1209]

None of the products or experimental preparations is currently in clinical use or under development. Thorium oxide was not excreted at all furthermore it proved to be toxic because of long-lived a-radiation [4]. Other agents were not pursued because they displayed various types of toxicity or were less well tolerated than the extracellular contrast agents. Except thorium dioxide, none of them resulted in reliable and satisfactory contrast or provided important diagnostic information which could not have been obtained with a similar quality by more recently established imaging methods. In spite of an everlasting... [Pg.1326]

The cyclic voltammogram is characterized by several important parameters. Four of these observables, the two peak currents and two peak potentials, provide the basis for the diagnostics developed by Nicholson and Shain (1) for analyzing the cyclic voltammetric response. [Pg.30]

A reconstructed ion chromatogram is a plot showing the variation in intensity of an ion of a particular m/z ratio as a function of analysis time, while the total-ion-current trace shows the variation in the intensity of all ions being produced as a function of analysis time. Simplistically, the TIC will show an increase as a compound elutes from an HPLC column and is ionized. If an ion with a particular m/z value is found to be diagnostic of a compound or series of compounds of interest, then an RIC of this m/z will show where its intensity increases and, therefore, where a compound of interest may have eluted. The mass spectrum at this point can then be examined for further confirmation that it is of significance. [Pg.297]

The latest consensus on the definition and management [1] of anaphylaxis agrees on the lack of imiversally accepted diagnostic criteria and reliable laboratory biomarkers to confirm the clinical impression. Sometimes it is not feasible to obtain the samples within the optimum time frame. Moreover, in spite of a correct collection of samples, histamine and/or tryptase are within normal levels. Hence, new markers should be explored and further research into the role of selected mediators is urgently needed. Recently however, studies from animal models have shown promising results. In this chapter we will seek to review our current knowledge on confirmed or putative markers for the in vitro diagnosis of anaphylaxis. [Pg.126]
