Experimental preparation

The conceptually simplest approach towards controlling systems by laser field is by teaching the field [188. 191. 192 and 193]. Typically, tire field is experimentally prepared as, for example, a sum of Gaussian pulses with variable height and positions. Each experiment gives an outcome which can be quantified. Consider, for example, an A + BC reaction where the possible products are AB + C and AC + B if the AB + C product is preferred one would seek to optimize the branching ratio... [Pg.2321]

One of the strengths of Schild analysis is the capability of unveiling nonequilibrium conditions in experimental preparations such as inadequate time of equilibration or removal of drugs from the receptor compartment. Figure 6.11 shows a range of possible experimentally observed but problematic linear Schild regressions that could be encountered for competitive antagonists. [Pg.108]

None of the products or experimental preparations is currently in clinical use or under development. Thorium oxide was not excreted at all furthermore it proved to be toxic because of long-lived a-radiation [4]. Other agents were not pursued because they displayed various types of toxicity or were less well tolerated than the extracellular contrast agents. Except thorium dioxide, none of them resulted in reliable and satisfactory contrast or provided important diagnostic information which could not have been obtained with a similar quality by more recently established imaging methods. In spite of an everlasting... [Pg.1326]

Primarily using isolated plasma membrane vesicles as an experimental preparation, the functional properties of Na /H exchangers have been elucidated. The important kinetic properties include (1) stoichiometry (one-for-one) (2) reversibility (3) substrate specificity (monovalent cations Na, H, Li, NH4, but not K, Rb, Cs, choline) (4) modes of operation (Na -for-H, Na -for-Na Li " -for-Na, Na -for-NH4 ) (5) existence of an internal site for allosteric activation by (6) reversible inhibition by amiloride (Af-amidino-5-amino-6-chloropyr-azine carboxamide) and its 5-amino-substituted analogs and (7) competitive nature... [Pg.247]

Experimental Preparation of 6-nitrospiropyran 2 (R = Bu). Triethyl-amine (2.65 g, 26 mmol) was added to a suspension of 2,3,3-trimethyl-7V-butylindolinium iodide (9.0 g, 26 mmol) and 5-nitro-salicylaldehyde (4.38 g, 26 mmol) in EtOH (100 ml) under stirring. The mixture was refluxed for 2 h, and filtered off. Recrystallization from hexane gave 6-nitrospiropyran 2 (R = Bu). Also, spiropyran 2 was isolated from the filtrate, which was evaporated under reduced pressure and then was chromatographed on silica gel with dichloromethane-methanol (60 1 v/v). Total yield of 2 (8.3 g) is 88%. [Pg.7]

Experimental Preparation of 5, 6-dinitrospirobenzothiopyran 44b. A mixture of 5-nitro-l,3,3-trimethyl-2-methyleneindoline (0.38 g, 1.75 mmol) and 5-nitro-thiosalicylaldehyde (0.22 g, 1.2 mmol) in EtOH (50 ml) was refluxed for 2h, and then evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was chromatographed on silica gel with benzene-acetone (15 1, v/v) and recrystallized from dichloromethane-hexane to give 44b (R1 = N02, R2 = 6-N02)(0.30 g, yield 65%). [Pg.39]

The weight-average branching functionality (fw) for the major MA peak (Table 11) falls between 16 and 18 for all the samples. This probably reflects the constancy of experimental preparation conditions temperature, concentration, solvent, and the ratio [DVB]/[RLi]. [Pg.317]

Known 1,2,3-dithiazoles are represented by the structures in row (a) of Figure 1. Strictly, these are 1,2,3-dithiazolines, the first one being 1,2,3-dithiazoline-5-one. 1,2,5-Oxathiazoles are represented by l,2,5-oxathiazolidine-4-ones (b) and 3-methylene 1,2,5-oxathiazolines (c). 1,2,3-Oxathiazoles have been obtained only in the form of their S-oxides (d), which should rather be termed -azolidines and -azolidinones. Experimentally prepared S-oxides of 1,2,3-dithiazoles and 1,2,5-oxathiazoles are depicted in row (e) and should be termed dithiazolines and oxathiazolines. 1,2,3-Dithiazolyl radicals (f) are known, as well as 1,2,3-dithiazolium cations (g) which are the only formally aromatic examples of the ring system and which may be represented by a number of resonance structures (h). [Pg.410]

Class Ill-agents, used clinically, are rare, with amiodarone as the best-known example. Several experimental preparations are the subject of clinical investigation. Amiodarone has shown to be effective in the treatment of various ventricular tachyarrhythmias and one of its major advantages is... [Pg.340]

According to Sternbach s account of the discovery of chlordiazepoxide, chance was also at work in the laboratories of Hoffmann-1 a Roche, although in a different way of the series of substances that Stembach had synthesized, why should it have been chlordiazepoxide, of all others, that had been left behind untested in the chemist s laboratory Rather than stressing this chance occurrence, the well-conducted clinical trial of the experimental preparation should be emphasized instead. This study was not restricted to a single indication or dosage range, but was extended in the face of initial unfavorable results into those indications within which the then standard preparation meprobamate achieved its best results (Cohen, 1970). [Pg.48]

Figure 2. Scheme illustrating the neural, hormonal and paracrine pathways regulating acid secretion from the parietal cell. The model includes all the possible localizations of H3 receptors, based on the available data from the literature concerning different experimental preparations. The inhibitory function (—11) of H3 receptors gives rise to different final effects on acid secretion according to the cell involved this may depend on the animal species, as described in the text. [Pg.65]

Bishomoaromatic stabilization energies [(35) -> (36)] were obtained by computational methods this study was part of a paper describing the experimental preparation of a zwitterionic analogue of such compounds (i.e. where X is boron).76... [Pg.211]

A synthetic form of the endogenous peptide brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) has recently been approved for use in acute cardiac failure as nesiritide. This recombinant product increases cGMP in smooth muscle cells and effectively reduces venous and arteriolar tone in experimental preparations. It also causes diuresis. The peptide has a short half-life of about 18 minutes and is administered as a bolus intravenous dose followed by continuous infusion. Excessive hypotension is the most common adverse effect. Measurement of endogenous BNP has been proposed as a diagnostic test because plasma concentrations rise in most patients with heart failure. [Pg.301]

Particulate material (e.g., sand, silt, clay) which has been transported and deposited in the bottom of a body of water. Sediment input to a body of water comes from natural sources, such as erosion of soils and weathering of rock, or as the result of anthropogenic activities, such as forest or agricultural practices, or construction activities. The term can also describe a material that has been experimentally prepared (formulated) using selected particulate material (e.g., sand of particular grain size, bentonite clay, etc.). Volume 1(2), Volume 2(5,9). [Pg.404]

Here, we report the application of this procedure for immobilizing Mucor miehei lipase. A catalytic test was aimed at producing esters by direct esterification reactions with a large range of carboxylic acids (from C4 to C16), and a diversity of alcohols (from C4 to C8). Several reaction model systems are analyzed in order to illustrate the kind of products that can be made by using an experimental preparation of lipase immobilized on POS-PVA particles. [Pg.190]

Even though theoretical studies have identified a number of potentially metastable structures [1, 2], the experimentally observed nitrogen compounds are still few. The azide anion, N3, wai. first synthesized in 1890 by Curtius [3]. Christie and coworkers have since 1999 reported the preparation and isolation of Ns"1" together with several different counter ions [4, 5]. A few other species, such as N3, Ns+, N4+, and N6, have been observed only as gaseous or matrix-isolated ions or radicals [6-12], We recently reported the detection of cyclic N5 in a mass spectrometry experiment [13], This observation has later been verified by Christie et. al. in a more elaborate study [14], The experimental preparation and detection of an open-chain N4 molecule was reported in 2002 by Cacace et al [15]. This species is expected to be unstable towards bimolecular decomposition and also too low in energy to be of any greater interest as a HEDM. [Pg.421]

In practice, defect-free coaxial nanotubes rarely occur in experimental preparations. The observed structures include the capped, bent, and toroidal SWNTs, as well as the capped and bent, branched, and helical MWNTs. Figure 14.1.11 shows the HRTEM micrograph of a helical multiwalled carbon nanotube which incorporates a small number of five- and seven-membered rings into the graphene sheets of the nanotube surfaces. [Pg.509]

Benthic substrate, which consisted of mediumgrained sands with shells and biotic remains, was hand-collected by SCUBA divers from 12 m depth in a coastal embayment near Bergen, Norway on March 14, 2003. The sediments were kept isolated from the overlying water during collection and experimental preparation, and were overlaid with filtered seawater during incubation. A set of 20 cc aliquots of drained but damp sediments were placed in the bottom of triplicate 250 ml PC bottles and gradually overlaid with 200 ml of the following water types artificial... [Pg.298]

Numbers in parentheses are values of the Hammett Acidity Function (Ho) calculated on the basis of the reported experimental preparative conditions and represent approximate acidity thresholds above which the particular species are stable in solution. [Pg.355]
