Developments after Licensing

The clearance considerations above apply for constant screw geometry along the axis and particularly for a constant pitch. Modular screws with elements with different pitches create the following dilemma  

With constant flank clearances along the entire machine, the contact points of different element pitches exhibit slight differences in their cross-section contours. On the other hand, applying congruent cross-section contours and therefore identical element contact points to avoid this, results in varying flank clearances.

After the license was awarded to Werner Pfleiderer (Section 2.3.3) and after an initial warm-up phase, machinery and process engineering underwent dramatic development. This took place during the years of industrial development and the simultaneous advances in the areas of polymer chemistry and plastics engineering that were taking place at the same time (example compounding technology). Suspicions were expressed in the Mealey Publication s Drug and Medical Device Report that the Lyme disease vaccine LYMErix could cause an incurable form of autoimmune arthritis. It was hjrpothesized that blood concentrations of OspA after three doses of vaccine place vaccinees classified by genetic type HLA-DR4-I- at risk of developing treatment-resistant Ljme arthritis. The premarket trials for the vaccine were assessed by an independent advisory committee, which found no link between Ljme disease immunization and autoimmune arthritis (10). However, the committee stressed the need for long-term surveillance and further studies in those over 70 years and in children, and the effect of the vaccine in patients with chronic arthritis the possible development of autoimmunity deserves further study (11). After licensing of the vaccine, more than 1 rmlfion Americans received it and no unusual adverse effects were reported to the manufacturer (10). 

THE ENTRY INTO PETROCHEMICALS Because the early 1950s were a period of rapid innovation in polymer/petrochemical technology, Hercules was able to build a new learning base in that industry and become a first mover in one of the most versatile of the new commodities, polypropylene (PP). Its strategy was excellent. The company worked closely with European inventors and companies that, like Hercules, had not been involved in the new technology s wartime development. After pioneering the invention of a new process for phenol resins, it joined with Britain s Distillers Company to commercialize and license the process. Its first plant came on-stream in 1952.4... 

The output of the control system should match the load, just as was done without the linear controller. If it does not, an error will develop after transfer is made to the linear controller. The addition of a linear controller should not be construed as license to discount the settings of the program. Instead, the program should be designed just as if there were no linear controller. Every effort should be made to place the controlled variable exaetly on the set point with zero velocity when transfer is made. In this way, the controller will have no work to do, and hence will not disturb the process. To be sure, the linear controller will compensate as well as it call for inaccuracies in the program, and this is beneficial.

Interestingly, the third neuraminidase inhibitor, peramivir, saw an incarnation after the avian fiu scare. Peramivir was developed by BioCryst Pharmaceuticals and licensed to Johnson Johnson (Chand et al., 2005). However, because the bioavailability of peramivir was low and the prospective market small, Johnson Johnson pulled out of the alliance. In 2005, peramivir was regaining its life as a possible drug delivered intravenously.
