Regulation effectiveness

The germination regulation effects of ten sesquiterpene lactones, the flavonoid artemetin and the diterpene lactone, 17-acetoxyacanthoaustralide, on 12 crop and weed seeds are presented. [Pg.133]

A new product being developed currently is a mattress to treat hypoxia (lack of oxygen) in newborn babies. It is known that reducing the body temperature of the new born has a positive effect therefore they are treated with cold towels, medicine, chilled rooms to keep the temperature. This treatment could be substituted by the treatment with a PCM mattress, thereby optimizing and prolonging the temperature regulating effect. [Pg.319]

This paper traces in some detail the path which led to the discovery of a new class of herbicides, the 2-(5-oxo-2-imidazolin-2-yl)arylcarboxylates. The journey started when it was found that a phthalimide, a-isopropyl-a-methyl-l,3-dioxo-2-isoindoline-acetamide, had sufficient herbicidal activity to warrant further synthesis effort. This work led to a series of analogs essentially devoid of herbicidal activity yet possessing interesting plant growth regulating effects. Further chemical modifications resulted in the synthesis of two new groups of compounds, imidazoisoindolediones and dihydro-imidazoisoindolediones, and the return of herbicidal activity. The imidazoisoindolediones were in turn transformed into o-(5-oxo-imidazo-lin-2-yl)benzoates, the first members of a very interesting new class of herbicides. [Pg.29]

The second important regulatory function of diacylglycerol is stimulation of protein kinase C (see 7.7). Protein kinase C is a protein kinase occurring in almost all cells, and has a regulating effect on many reactions of the cell. Characteristic for protein kinase C is its stimulation by Ca, diacylglycerol and phosphatidyl serine. [Pg.237]

Tumor suppressor genes are genes that, by their inactivation due to mutations or deletion, promote tumor formation. The proteins for which they code are known as tumor suppressor proteins. Many of the known tumor suppressor proteins have a suppressing and negatively regulating effect on processes that are either directly associated with regulation of cell division or influence this in an indirect way. Other, equally important functions of tumor suppressor proteins are in the areas of DNA repair and cell adhesion. Inactivation of tumor suppressor genes can have various consequences ... [Pg.436]

The associated subimits often have a stabilizing effect on the pore formed by the large subimit and they determine the details of activation and deactivation of the pore to a large extent. Furthermore, the associated subunits have phosphorylation sites and it is assumed that these can have a regulating effect on pore function. [Pg.480]

Gerstenfeld s empirical studies of 107 successful and unsuccessful companies in Government Regulation Effects on the Direction of Innovation A Focus on Performance Standards, (11) could only find that performance standards regulations have a secondary, but positive, impact on the direction of successful innovations. Lessing comes to the conclusion in Why the U.S. [Pg.32]

COLEMAN and Fox (18) have pointed out that the non Bernoullian sequence distribution observed in some of these systems can be formed without the hypothesis of penultimate effects. All that is required is that two or more types of active species be present which do not rapidly interconvert. Each can add monomer at its own rate and with its own characteristic regulating effect. No penultimate effect is necessary but the sequence distribution will be non-Bernoullian. This type of mechanism is particularly attractive in the explanation of stereoblock polymer formation in the lithium alkyl systems in toluene with small amounts of ether present. The presence of at least two species of active centres has been inferred from an examination of polymer fractions obtained from butyllithium initiated polymerizations (19) in toluene. The change in molecular weight distribution with time suggests the presence of two... [Pg.106]

Thus, the possibility to regulate effectively the orientation of polymer side groups by varying the parameters of the electric field, together with the possibility to fix the oriented structure in a glassy state enables the use of such LC systems for making polymeric materials with required optical properties. [Pg.233]
